LindaR This has not been a happy past 9 days.

WARNING!!!!! This is a rant...............

My 13 yo daughter was sexually harrased at school by another student. The principal blew it off (a boys will be boys kinda thing). This incident involved use of words, name-calling, and explicit commands. Heck, I'm 40 years old and had a hard time repeating these things! I went over the principal's head to the superindentant. Super covered the principal's butt (no suprise). After getting advise from a friend of a friend (my best friend's boss) talked to the assistant district attorney to find out what to do. Have also been in contact with the ACLU. Come to find out the principal has 3 DUI's, is thick as theives with the superintendent, and served beer and cigars to underage kids to "bond" with them. Yep, he's still employed!

ANYWAY, I have been/still am in the "mama grizzly bear" mode. And they now know that behind my sweet smile, is a mouth full of teeth that are dripping blood.

The part that floors me is that, even 9 days later, no one has spoken to my daughter to have her tell the complete story and to help her start the recovery process.

I thank God for His help in raising a strong, independent, out-spoken daughter (who, in a weird coincidence wants to be a civil rights attorney).

Mama wants to rip their heads off and sh*t in the hole! (a wonderful phrase I learned from MY boss!)

I feel like I now "know" about 1/2 of the people who live in the state of New Mexico.

Ajax Hey Linda-
Tear them up! If you can prove those allegations about the school administration, I'd make it public. I don't care if the AMA does define alchoholism as a disease, I'd be skeptical that a person with 3 DUI's could objectively deal with teen alchohol abuse.
You might find that airing your story at the next public school board meeting will trigger the response you seek.
Good luck!

LindaR I despise politics. That is why I have never been in PTA, gone to school board meeting, city council, etc.

I never open my mouth unless I am VERY sure of what I am saying and have solid facts to back me up. (not fond of eating crow)

My boss calls me his "pit bull".....ain't afraid of nothin' and never back down.

He used to call me "sunshine" until he heard me arguing with my ex-husband.

***That is appalling! They had no right to do this to your daughter!

I thank God for His help in raising a strong, independent, out-spoken daughter (who, in a weird coincidence wants to be a civil rights attorney).

**** She sounds amazing and with her incredible strength to keep on going and with your constant support and prayers, she is going to go places.

Mama wants to rip their heads off and sh*t in the hole! (a wonderful phrase I learned from MY boss!)

**** I'll be more than willing to hold them down! Do vent away and do keep us post on this situation.

samogram Do you have a Women's Resource Center or something similar where you live? I am the Exec. Dir. of one here in Oklahoma and we work with victims-scratch that-SURVIVORS of sexual harassment all the time. If the DA or ACLU won't or can't, help, is there a local college or university with a law school with eager students who need a test case. Colleges and Universities also sometimes have Women's Resource Centers associated with them. And if all else fails, I love to use newspapers and television to get the word out. This just makes me fume, fuss and bluster! Let me know how it turns out and give your daughter a few thousand hugs for me.
