My 24 year old son and his gf of 5 years just got engaged. He took her to the San Francisco bay area and asked her on the beach on their 5th anniversary.
Anyway, she is looking at next June or July but already has tons of things in place after a week LOL
She called and said she wanted the wedding in a rose garden. Those in Sacramento know most would pick McKinley Park. I made a joke about his grandmother's rose bushes and got a call back yesterday that she wants the wedding at this certain place.
(sorry for the background here but no other way to explain what this means to us)
After my dad passed in 84, my mother spent all her time with my kids, watching them while I worked, went on all our vacations, etc so they were very very close to her.
My dad married my mom during WWII, she was and died an English citizen but was brought over here after the war to Sacramento (Rio Linda). My dad's family had a huge Crystal dairy (brand of dairy products for those outside CA). My dad built a small red house behind the main big house for my dad,my mom and their daughter. My dad's entire family (9 brother's /sisters) lived on that ranch in numerous houses with all their new wive's/kids. Later the ranch was sold, everyone moved on their own to different places. My mom/dad stayed within a mile of the ranch house. Now the ranch house was named a historical landmark (for reasons I have no clue) but it's ran by the county of Sacramento now. When my mom passed away in 95, all of her rose bushes were dug up and replanted around the front yard of the old ranch house where they are today.
This leads me to where the story is now (sorry)...the gf called last night and wants me to ask my sister how to have a wedding on the front lawn of the old ranch house. (my sister who lived there belongs to the historical society).
It's kinda nice because my son was very close to his grandpa, sitting on his lap eating cereal in the mornings, very very close to his grandma. Both funerals were very hard on my son, harder for him then my other kids because he was so close to the grandparents. I just thought all of this was very nice. I think it's going to be a sentimental wedding. Their reception is going to be at a very rich retirement village where they both met when they were waiters(resses)in the restaraunt area. She wants it there because that's where they first met. : ) |

Dab,
Congrats on your son finding such a sweet lady to make his life partner. She sounds like a true jewel who appreciates the really important things in life. Family, history, and of course roses.
All the best to your whole clan.
Lori-who put in 70 new rose bushes this past spring. |

My sister called (from Lake Tahoe...I really hate being here in OK especially when I could be in Tahoe), she talked to the head person and got a go for the wedding. |
