Topic: Never mind Krispy Kreme, let's talk Starbucks! Return to archive

Tink *~*~* I have never had a Krispy Kreme, ever. I could not get excited about the installation of a Krispy Kreme in my neighborhood.
However, I am thrilled that there is going to be a Starbucks build just about 4 minutes from my house. I am a mocha frappacino addict. Mmmmm, two of my favorite tastes, chocolate and coffee, blended so brilliantly.

I wish there was a Starbucks in Walt Disney World. Their coffee is dreadful, most places.

Your just getting a Starbucks close now, lucky you. Some guy from SB asked me the other day if they could build one in my basement and another in my kitchen. :)
Seriously, I have no idea why they build them so close together around here.
What WDW needs is a Tim Horton's. If you ask a Canadian (or a northern NYer) they'll tell ya.

Francine Sinff, sniff.....I don't have a Starbucks near me either. No Krispy Kremes, no Starbucks......poor, poor me!

Cara I must consider myself extremely lucky.....not only do i have 3 Starbucks within 3 miles of my house...one of them is a Drive-thru. Sorry...just lucky i guess

TnDizNut Oh I am a starbucks addict as well. I think "coffee" is the only disappointment I have ever had at WDW...the coffee there is atrocious! So with that being said where in the parks have you coffee connosouirs (sp?) found GREAT coffee??
I have heard poly has good coffee and thirtythirst or fortythirst..lol...something like that at DD has but where in the parks do you get your fix? If I don't get good coffee in the morn I spend the whole day thinking ..Gawd what I wouldn't do for a cup of REAL coffee. I have been reluctant to experiment as the few places I tried tastes like the same recycled mud they serve everywhere. I would love to see some gourmet coffee stands located througout the parks.......sigh. Sadly I think the airlines even have better coffee on flights then wdw has.

fantayzya Well, I was just over at the Krispy Kreme thread Yahooing about the 2 coming soon to a couple of corners near me and I saw this thread.

Hi I'm Lori and I'm a coffeeholic. If I could figure out a way to hook up an IV I'd do it.

Alas, no Starbucks near me either. But happily, I did see the sign for the one just a couple minutes from my house that is currently under construction.

Ahhhhhhh

Belle Starbucks - ahhh, yes, there are several around me. I love their flavored Hot Cocoas too :) And they have some GREAT fudge brownies - absolutely sinfully chocolatey... Mmmmmm...

{hugs}
Belle <--suddenly needing a raspberry cocoa and a gooey fudge brownie - I'll have to throw a stone at one from my chair and see if I can get their attention ;)

No great coffee, but I have found very good coffee at:
Jiko and Boma - the french press pot of Kenyan coffee
Kona Cafe - the Kona, of course
The little book store (Writer's Stop?) in MGM - actually not coffee there, but a decent latte.

roodad (from Seattle, where you can't spit without hitting a Starbucks, although they frown on that)

I grind my own Starbuck's Breakfast Blend, put it in a double Ziploc bag in my suitcase, and make good use of the in-room coffee maker. I only drink coffee in the morning any way, so I don't miss it elsewhere in the World. Add one little bottle of milk and a handful of sugar packets, and you're in business.

Tigerlily They just built two Starbucks in my little town, and they're roughly 100 feet apart. No, really! One is inside the brand new Super Target, and the other is free-standing on a pad in the parking lot. I thought it was kinda funny that I've seen Starbucks in Edinburgh, London and Beijing, but not in my town, and now I have two right next to each other. :-)

The best coffee at WDW is at the Kona Cafe coffee stand in the Poly, but they're only open in the early morning. You can find reasonably good coffee at Epcot at the stand behind Mouse Gear on the path to Ellen's Energy Adventure. I think there's a sister stand in WS near the American Adventure. The coffee at the Buy The Book store in MGM is pretty good too, that is if they even still serve it there. The Nescafe they serve in most of the restaurants tastes like...uh...pee pee. :-)

Ditto what roodad said, and I'll add that the espresso at the little coffe bar near the check-in desk at the Contemporary isn't bad either. Or maybe I was just too wired after the first couple of sips to care lol

I agree though coffee in WDW leaves a lot to be desired.

Oh, and roodad, did I hear right that they are thinking of adding a coffee tax in Seatle? I believe it was USA Today that I saw that. That would bite big time if true.

LindaD I don't like coffee but do go to Starbucks a lot. Their Chai Latte tea is wonderful and I literally gulp them down.

There are slews of Starbucks in this area. I guess that Texans drink a lot of coffee.

Shore do, Little Gal! Ain't no panty-waist-tea-sippin-pinkie-extended-china-cup-holdin' buckaroos down in these here parts of Tejas! Coffee! Gotta be COFFEE. With the grounds still in it! Thick as Texas crude. Stand yer spoon up in it, you can. Sorry...I get out of control before I've had my first cup in the morning. Can't that dang imported German coffee maker thang drip any faster??? Geez, their cars go a million miles an hour, why can't their coffee drip faster?? Huh? Huh? Huh?... (Runs off in the direction of the kitchen and comes back with a huge cup) Ahhh. That's better. Thank goodness for drip-stop.

fantayzya LOL that's how us old Hollanders are too TigerLily.

Give me my coffee in a soup bowl please. Around here Dsorcerer uses a 'normal' mug, mine is 'Family Size' if it were punch we could all stick a straw in that mug lol.

Tigerlily Today's Mug Du Jour of the Day is a lovely 16 oz Tink with Attitude mug; black ceramic with neon green and pink Tink images on it. This is my weekend choice. During the week in my office, is a wonderful 16 oz white ceramic mug with my favorite b&w photo of a lone Walt striding through Sleeping Beauty Castle at DL. When I'm in a coffee bowl mood, I use a 16 oz Wonderful World of Disney giganto cup. And nobody had better attempt putting their straw in it, or they'll draw back a nub!

I love the smell of coffee - I used to work in a coffee shop a long time ago (not Starbucks) and loved smelling the various flavors - German Chocolate was my favorite. However, when it came to TASTING the coffee? They all tasted the same to me, like dirt. :)

Yikes, then we would have to have the Seattle Coffee Party, where we dump Howard Schultz in Elliot Bay.

jobro912 What about a Krispy Kreme with Starbucks in the same building? Now we're talking. Did visit Starbucks alot when living in Bangkok.

Good thing they have Starbucks in Asia! I don't know about Thailand, but in China they *cannot* make a good cup of coffee. They have that tea thing down pat, but ordering coffee is taking your tastebuds' life into your own hands. In the smaller, Starbuck-less towns, I had to resort to drinking tea and diet Coke for my caffeine fix, involving many many more trips to the potty-which-is-only-a-hole-in-the-ground. Learning how to use said potty is an interesting experience all on it's own. Another story for another day, perhaps? ;-)

AH!! I've got my beige "castle" mug - the castle on the outside, a flying Tink on the inside.
I was a huge coffee addict in my 20's - (grad school and a job does that to ya) But soon found that too much caffeine gave me a tic, right by my eye.
I switched to de-caf when pregnant and nursing, but got right back to the "real stuff" as years went by. I keep it under control so the tic doesn't return.

Been there, done that...with not much success. One night we were at a little roadside BBQ...you know...cook it yourself on the table grill. Smaller comes out from the hole in the floor room..."Dad, there's no paper." Dad: "Is there a water bowl?" Smaller:"Yeah." Dad: "Bingo!"
He got a couple of napkins to take back. So much for assimilation into the culture whence one lives.

They did that East of Seattle. Our 1st Krispy Kreme is next door to a Starbucks (of course everything in Seattle is next door to a Starbucks).

I was forewarned, and carried my own paper and soap with me everywhere. And speaking of cultural assimililation: With the 2008 Olympics slated for Beijing, there's a big push (no pun intended, lol!) for replacing hole-potties with modern western plumbing. Entire plumbing districts have sprung up in cities, where you can get your western potties and sinks. There are billboards all over the country with smiling families (Mom, Dad, one child and a dog,)all posing proudly with their new western potties.

Slightly changing the subject: So, what did you think of the beds? Are Thai beds as hard as Chinese beds? My friend threw herself, out of travel exhaustion, down on the bed in our first hotel. She almost broke her hip! I like a hard mattress, but these were ridiculous! LOL!

We last lived in Thailand for the 2000-01 school year...In Chiang Mai...Smaller was very content with his stuffed to the hilt with straw mattress. I took my butt to the nearest Department store and bought a western one. Way too hard for me. We lived in Thailand twice...Fall semester 1997, then the whole school year...00-01. Done living there, but will definitely visit.
