Dab Anyone else out there trying to lose weight? I'm the biggest chocolate lover but today was the first day of my 8 month diet. I started up my walking again, 45 minutes. I use to walk 90 minutes plus the situps, leg lifts, etc. Gotta start small and work back up. I've gained about 8 lbs since coming back from vacation in July so now a tight size 10. Anyone have any helpful hints? I had my workup done at the base gym to decide what machines to use, how long, etc. Now I just have to get my fanny there to do it on a regular basis.
Any good diet dishes? I value diet desserts LOL

ronski Hi ,Dab, me too! I just posted something along the same lines over at YMJ. I am trying to lose about 20 lbs. I had been on a running program (I've always wanted to run the WDW marathon), but due to an injury I had to stop. I am trying to get back on track now. I am a chocolate lover too (Don't look surprised!!!) I wish you luck, and please keep me posted!

My advice? Stay away from the diet boards. The nutrasweet/saccharin debates make the RCH vs the world look like kids play. Talk about some heat!

Hey, why do you think it's going to take me 8 months to lose 20 lbs????? I build my chocolate into my diets LOL
(I'm laughing and my son is just looking at me like I'm wierd).

Honestly though, I do. When we first got transfered to OK I gained 50 lbs. in a year. I've lost 40 of it but pretty sure I've gained about 10 back since July. I've done well to keep it off for 4 years, just tons of stress the last few months. I build my eating around desserts LOL Fat Free fudge pudding made with skim milk, fat free cool whip and strawberries. I don't ever tell myself that I can't have something or else I'll be eating that and much much more within a week. If I eat a candy bar, I don't beat myself up, I just walk a little extra each day and resign to the fact that I won't lose what I expected to that week. Talking chocolate is no problem with me. BTW, I walked an hour tonight up and down my street. I have an incline so after about 20 minutes, the incline feels like a mountain. Fudge bars from Schwann's are pretty good too!!!
I lose the weight this way but I also exercise more and eat more vegetables over the big hunk of protein on the plate. before the main dish would be 50% of the plate, now it's 20% with more veggies.

Funny, my son was just doing the same thing to me...

anyway, I do the same with my diets. I buy a bunch of WW frozen desserts and a bag of Dove dark chocolates. Each evening I have either one dessert or one chocolate. I look forward to it all day, and since it's the only chocolate I eat I don't feel guilty at all.

I'm a lazy dieter. This is my diet: breakfast, half a bagel with lite cream cheese, coffee with skim milk. Lunch, a Lean Pocket with a glass of water. Dinner, a Lean Cuisine with a glass of water. I usually have a piece of fruit as a morning snack, and a cup of coffee as an afternoon snack, then the chocolate at night. I drink water constantly. I know,, but it works long enough to lose about 10 lbs, then I go back to normal eating. I'm down about 20 lbs from where I was 2 years ago. I do Pilates and yoga when I remember to, but did I mention that I'm lazy?

Tootsie PoPs are our friend. They take a long time to finish, providing you're not a biter, and then there's that chocolatey treat at the end.

Nope, I think it's the best way to lose weight. (for me anyway) If I tell myself I cannot have a piece of birthday cake, within a week I'm baking one and eating the entire thing! If I go slow and know that I do not have to deny anything I like (just eat it as a treat and not a daily thing any longer LOL), then it helps me.
I eat english muffins (lower in calories than a bagel but I do eat a half of a large bagel now and then) with spray butter stuff that has no calories, coffee
Should have fruit in between but forget to eat a snack sometimes.
lunch is usually whatever is left over from dinner or a lean cuisine. I try to do about 300 calories for lunch.
Dinner is what everyone else has but smaller portions on the fat type stuff/protein main course, more veggies with that spray butter stuff.
I always have a treat between dinner and bed. Sometimes chocolate fudge frozen yogurt from Schwanns LOL airpop popcorn with the spray butter stuff, etc.
Because of my changing the way we eat around here during the last 4 years, we don't buy butter or margarine any longer but that spray butter stuff with zero calories, no mayonnaise, we use mustard, hardly any bread any more. I am a HUGE bread and butter person. Best thing in the world besides chocolate is a warm roll with butter at a restaraunt. We still order pizza, I eat one piece but also make a salad with a diet dressing that is 18 calories a tablespoon. i walked one hour today listening to music. I found where my muscles are in my butt LOL they hurt today from walking (YES IT'S FROM WALKING!!!!!!! LOL)
I finally got on the scale after being home from vacation since July 9th and .......8 pounds since I've been home.

Diets suck...

mickeybar I hear ya, Dab! (When my "baby" turned 3, it was time for me to do something!)
I joined Weight Watchers and I really love the program. They've covered a lot of the points that have been brought up on the board. They have some good recipes, too.
I love ice cream and chocolate. When I'm stressed, like I've been for the last three weeks starting nursing school, it's harder for me to stay on track, and resist the "red light" foods, but I'm still not giving up!
So far, I've lost 43 lbs since the end of March. I've still got a few more to go, but I already feel so much better.
Try www.dwlz.com for a large number of recipes and information, as well as weighwatchers.com.
Keep up the exercise! I walk and use a Total Gym three times a week, which I think is the only reason I haven't actually gained anything in the last three weeks. Also a great stress reliever. I'm looking forward to taking yoga next semester!

Tell me about the Total Gym! The ads look very tempting, is it as good as they say? If it works I think I may ask Santa for one.

I'd be happy to be a very tight size 10!

I'd lost a lot of weight a few years ago but have gained a bunch of it back (starting with sitting on my butt all the time at DRC). I need to eat better, but I do go to the gym at least several times a week. I plan to buy a pedometer tomorrow also - I keep reading that it is good to get 10,000 steps in a day and I want to make sure I am getting that. I also try not to dip too much into the mint oreos. :)
