Stopped at a Sonic tonight and noticed they have a new beverage called "Ocean Water". I'm really curious from a marketing standpoint if there is some part of the country where the thought of drinking ocean water conjures up quenching thoughts of refreshment?
Does that really sound refreshing to anybody? |

Living as close to Galveston Island as I do, um NO.....it does NOT sound enticing. ;-) |

Reminds me of a rerun I saw recently of an old SNL skit, one of those spoof commercials they used to do. This was a take off on bottled mineral water, and I think the 'beverage' was called sludge.
Needless to say it didn't look very 'refreshing'. :D |

My daughter's first job was a Sonic. This must be either an Okie thing (Sonic originated in Oklahoma) or a Southern thing. I asked my daughter what it was and she described it(I don't remember anymore) and said it was a popular drink. I guess it must be. They've had it on the menu for a long, long time. |

There are plenty of drinks that don't really sound that good, some with names of sexual acts. (I am thinking of one in particular, but will spare you...)
I love Sonic, but there are none up here.
Cheese covered Tater Tots, mmmmm....
Damn fine Cherry Cokes too.

Texas law says you MUST order a cherry limeade when dining at Sonic. ;-) BTW, I noticed that they're putting a Sonic in the food court of my local mall! (Baybrook for those of you in the Houston area.) Sonic has always been a drive-in. I'm not sure I can order anything from them without rolling down my window and pushing a button, then trying to make them understand what I'm trying to order over the world's worst speaker system. ;-) WHATTT??? You want WHAATTTT??

This is one of the drawbacks of the Internet, you discover all kinds of really cool places that don't exist in your part of the country. I remember hearing friends talk about Target stores and being insanely jealous until they finally opened a bunch in NJ. Now I have to dream of cherry lime-ade (sounds awesome!) Ocean Water, I think I'd skip that one.

OOOh, I forgot to mention that they actually put a real maraschino cherry and a slice of lime in it! Is "real maraschino cherry" an oxymoron, btw? ;-) |

Cherry Limeaide's are magical! Man, talk about good! Rap yourself around one of those puppies when it's 110 in the shade, and you'll know what real refreshment is.
Damn....I'm going to go get one NOW! |

La la la la I can't hear you la la la la la
Hmmm, I have a lime and a jar of marachino cherries in the fridge, and I think I even have some concentrated limeade in the freezer, think I can whip one of those babies up? |

Ha! All that and I think maybe some sprite and cherry flavoring as well. I'm not sure what all is in that thing. I wonder how it would taste with a little vodka splashed about?!? |

It's funny. We just got a Sonic here a couple of years ago. Only place in town that serves a Frito Chili Pie. When I lived in Texas, I loved going to them when I was a child. It was the only time we got to eat in the car! |

They end in Arizona going west from OK. There is one 2 miles from my house and the limeaids are my favorite. Can't get use to the hamburgers yet, you all like them too dry here for us. #1mayo #2 mustard, why not mustard AND mayo??? LOL Actually I love their cheese stuffed peppers with ranch dressing!!!
Now we need a Weinersnitzel here in Oklahoma. I want a chili cheese dog so bad from them. Ocean water does not sound good. Most of the time the ocean I see is the San Francisco Bay off Hwy 80, the curve from Vallejo to the Bay Bridge (if any of you are familiar with that area)...whoa, wouldn't even want to step in that water right there. |

You know Dab, when you're right, you're right! The burgers are dry! Hadn't really ever thought about it before. I was born and raised in Colorado and I remember Der Weinerschnitzel.
Do you ever get to Norman? We have a "Boomerang" herethat makes good burgers and another place call "Sooner Dairy Lunch" that dates back to the 50's and is drive up only. You walk up to a little window to order, sit outside the window on a bench and take your order out in a white paper bag when the cook calls you. It's a homemade hoot! Then there's another place called the Red Horse Grill that has great onion burgers. Norman has some pretty good restaurants.
I never got brave enough to try Ocean Water, but daughter says it is sure popular.

I never thought about that but you guys don't have very many of those things here. We called them Jolly Cones where I lived (probably because it was called Jolly Cone while I was little). President Clinton stopped there for some chili in 97(96maybe?)when he came to Rio Linda for the flooding problem. They really don't have those here other than McD's, whereas from the area I'm from in CA, they were all over the place. The greasy hamburger stands with good greasy fries, you do your order at the window and then they call your name when it's ready. |

Okay, here's the word: My daughter, the Sonic veteran, says Ocean Water is a cocoanut slush. YUCK! Aren't greasy french fries the best? There's also a place here in Norman that has the best greasy french fries called the Service Station.
I know I shouldn't admit this, but I remember a trip to California in the 60's when we ate at the first McDonald's, but I can't remember what it was called then.
I am not a person who needs to be thinking about all this terrific but horribly unhealthy food. Gosh! I love it though. |
