Posted 11-27-02 04:03 AM I don't know if you guys have noticed, but I seem to be online at all hours of the day and night. I'm having trouble with insomnia and, after looking at Ahnalira's beautiful new home and wondering why I couldn't create something like that, I knew I had to go looking for something peaceful to hopefully quiet my mind.
This passage was a terrific help because I've been very angry lately and I'm afraid it's shown it's ugly head on the DB at the DIS. I'd apologize to the crowd over there, but I know if I do, they'll just throw it up to me over and over and over until I'm driven off the boards.
But, I digress. This passage from http://groups.msn.com/FullMoonParad...398639724853144 has helped me out terrifically. I actually started crying halfway through it. I'm posting an excerpt and the link if there is anyone out there who also needs some help in "anger management". I think I'll be able to sleep now if I practice the meditation while waiting for sleep to come. I hope so, anyway.
"Anger is an unpleasant feeling. It is like a blazing flame that burns up our self-control and causes us to say and do things that we regret later. When someone is angry, we can see clearly that he or she is abiding in hell. Anger and hatred are the materials from which hell is made. A mind without anger is cool, fresh and sane. The absence of anger is the basis of real happiness, the basis of love and compassion.
When we are angry, we are not usually inclined to return to ourselves. We want to think about the person who is making us angry, to think about his hateful aspects - his rudeness, dishonesty, cruelty, maliciousness, and so on. The more we think about him, listen to him, or look at him, the more our anger flares. His dishonesty and hatefulness may be real, imaginary, or exaggerated, but, in fact, the root of the problem is the anger itself, and we have to come back and look first of all inside ourselves. It is best if we do not listen to or look at the person who is the cause of our anger. Like a fireman, we have to pour water on the blaze first and not waste time looking for the one who set the house on fire...

Posted 11-27-02 06:57 AM Insomnia is a terrible thing. It wears you down after awhile, and affects your entire outlook. When it's anger based, it's that much worse.
You may want to take a look at this:

Here's to a good night's sleep.
Edited in an attempt to fix the link. You'll need to cut and paste it, sorry.

Posted 11-27-02 08:49 AM {{{LunarLady}}}... psssst, my secret to success Abraham
Back when I was a psychologist, I used to tell folks that anger was a powerful decision maker. It burns away the dross to the center of desire. The key/magic trick is to be able to shift out of the anger as soon as the desire is clearly defined and find ways to feel good.
Here's to the clarity of your desires and the path towards a good nights sleep!

Posted 11-27-02 05:55 PM Sleepy...thank you so, so much for that link. I'm sitting here crying because it touched a chord in me. I'm going to follow up on the site and see if I can't find more there to help me out during this dark time. Thank you!!
Ahnalira...I've ordered the free CD on the teachings from the Abraham site. I explored that site first before going to Sleepy's site and found some things that make sense to me and the way I see (or would like to see) life.
Thanks, guys! If I have problems sleeping again tonite, I'll just watch http://www.llangley.com/yoga/wisdom/rightnow[2].htm

Posted 12-03-02 03:42 PM I am sorry I didn't see this sooner. I haven't been around to much.
I pray when I am angry. I think of it as my form of meditation, looking within, searching out a good thought. Anger has at times really takem a toll on my, particularly when it comes to getting a good night's sleep. So, when I go to bed, and I have something on my mind, I pray. Now, I comsider prayer to be many, many things. One form of prayer for me is this. I relax my mind compeletely. I put myself somewhere that I know relaxes me. With my eyes closed, I think of what I would hear, smell, see, and feel, in this place that makes me happy. Sometimes I use the beach at Cape Cod, sometimes I use the solitude of the choir loft when no one is there, and I have other places. Now, remember, I don't physically go there, I go there in my mind.
I hope you will find peaceful thoughts, LL.

Posted 12-03-02 11:49 PM I think a lot of people have gone through sleepless periods. One thing I tried that really seemed to help was to pick reading material that was uplifting and read it right before bedtime. Seems to calm the mind and put one in a condition for a good night's sleep. I usually use Guideposts or the Daily Word or something of that nature. In fact, I just received my 2003 Daily Guideposts, and it will live on the bedside table for the whole year.
I think that just like the body, the mind is made up of primarily what you put into it (bodily, you are what you eat, psychologically, you are what you read). Giving up reading stephen King and Anne Rice before bed means a good night's sleep, and I'm totally down with that! Tink *~*~*
