Posted 11-26-02 06:01 PM Here's the back-story: Mom and I got into a disagreement last weekend regarding recycling centers and how she says she has very little space to put one in. While I wasn't insisting she use one (they live in the country and burn all their burnables), she just wouldn't let me complete any sentences that began with "I'm happy with my center because..."
I finally found my digital camera (the cat hid it under the desk...no fooling!) and was able to show her how what I was trying to tell her last weekend. While I was sending her the pics, though, I thought it might be nice to show y'all what I've come up with and (hopefully) you'll see how easy it can be to recycle once you get in the habit.
I put the heavy stuff (newspapers, magazines) in the lower drawers and the light stuff (plastic grocery store bags) in the upper drawers. These are three drawer plastic units that can be found at any Meijers, Wal-Mart or Target in your area. They come with casters if you want something that moves, but I found I did well with putting two 3-drawer units stacked one on top of the other and NOT use the castors for stability purposes.
When you're ready to recycle, just take the drawer out, put it in your trunk and dump it at your recycling center. No muss, no fuss, no bother. Should the drawer need cleaning, it can easily be hosed off in the backyard or washed off in the tub. (Or even bleached if you want to)
Just an idea I thought I'd pass along. I've been using
this system since September and it's worked out marvelously
for me!
A whole week of peaceful bliss, beginning with a giggle
and ending with a kiss. |
