Posted 11-20-02 02:25 PM I'm a relatively inexperienced scrapper. I've done a few pages, but it's more of a winter hobby for me when I can't get out in my gardens.
I've been invited to a crop. It's tomorrow morning and I'm so nervous. I have no pages in the works right now, though I do have photos galore to work with. I've got nothing set up to actually travel somewhere else to do this and have no idea what I should take. It's held at a store near me so I could conceivably buy what I need, but I don't really want to spend more money till I use up some of what I have.
Advice? Why am I so nervous? I just know my pages will look like caa caa next to the more experienced croppers and I'll be so embarrassed. "One small drop of water raises the sea" Marian in Dinotopia

Just think of
all the ideas you'll get looking at how others put
things together. I imagine there will be lots of laughter
and good stories to share, too

Posted 11-20-02 11:46 PM Good points Ahnalira!
Okay, my motto for this new experience is going to be
"Watch and Learn!"
I can do this and survive with my dignity (and more importantly my motivation) intact lol.
I'm just finding it strange to be nervous about what a bunch of strangers think or that I'll commit some serious breach of cropping ettiquette or something lol.
I definately need to get out more sheesh!
Thanks for the calming post. "One small drop of water raises the sea" Marian in Dinotopia

Posted 11-27-02 09:19 AM So. How did it go, Lori? I've been "gathering" supplies as they catch my eye, in hopes that one day I'll get the nerve to begin. That first step, though, is a doozy, especially for a perfectionist like me.
Tell me about your crop. Did you have fun?

Posted 11-27-02 10:37 AM Actually, yes I did. It was much more informal than I expected, though they have times it's more of an event I guess.
It was at a store near by. They have sectioned off an area and put up tables. It seems you can go any day of the week and use this area. They do have some supplies, stencils, scissors and the like, that you can use as well as coffee, pop (soda for those of you not from around here lol) and tea. You bring in your own supplies or buy as you go from the store if you choose, or a combination of both. If you opt to grab from the shelves they kind of run a tab for you and you pay for what you've used when you leave.
I really enjoyed the time spent chatting while working on the projects, having access to whatever I needed, or decided later I needed lol was great too. We did share supplies between us too a bit, even swapped a couple of papers with some ladies I'd not met before.
Sitting down in a place other than my home and designating the time for the sole purpose of working on the projects was great for me. No interuptions, plenty of work space on the big table, and conversation (I spend most of my at home time alone so this was major)was great fun.
The bonus turned out to be that after seeing me pack up my things to do this, and mentioning that although I do have a large case to make the supplies mobile, I still couldn't take some things I would have liked to. Hubby went to Sam's Club and picked up another big Mega Cropper (I think that's the one) and it was waiting for me by my desk when I got home from work that night. Now I'll look like I'm going on vacation when I go back for another crop session.
It was fun, I'm a perfectionist too and feel I think way too much about how I want to do each page, what embellishments and such. They have to all be so special lol. I was so worried I wouldn't 'measure up' to the other ladies there. No worries. Everyone has their own style. Only you have to like your books.
Dive in and have fun. I'm finding it's quite habit forming though lol.

Posted 12-08-02 01:45 AM It's fun to invite over other friends who scrapbook, or would like to start as well. A couple of times a year I schedule a scrapbook open house marathon day and just tell all my scrapping friends to stop by anytime and stay as long as they like. People come and go and I just get so much done! I can go all day with so much to inspire me and the good company.

Posted 12-09-02 10:40 AM Geez you've got my mind spinning. lol. I still ponder who you are from time to time (assuming I know you from RCH lol) and you keep tossing twists in there to totally wipe out all theories lol.
Though the number of possibles has definately been cut down. heh heh heh.
If my life allowed for a more social aspect-my work kind of messes that possibility up-I think it would be great fun to have a cropper invasion. Though I'm not sure what my guys might think of this. I have gotten Nate, my youngest involved somewhat, mostly in an assistant role for now, though we're discussing his starting his own project. Ben shows little interest in actually doing it, but he sneaks looks at the finished product from time to time. Ed would probably either get the heck outta dodge, or take on a role he's really good at and play host, serving up all kinds of yummies and beverages and keeping everyone in stitches. He's been known to do that when we have entertained and he's so much better than I am at it.
I'll have to keep this in mind for when I finish getting my life/home more organized-I really am making progress at it this time!-I'll have to poll the few friends I have and see if they have some friends to round out the bunch lol.
Thanks for the idea!
