Posted 10-27-02 01:04 PM It's that time of year folks!
Don't forget to change the batteries in your smoke detectors and check the detectors' operation! I like persons better than principles, and I like persons with no principles better than anything else in the world.

Posted 10-27-02 04:38 PM So... the folks who we bought the Villa from had alot of expensive filming and sound equipment and put an electronic security system into the house that took our experience of fire alarms with batteries in them to new and expanded levels... especially when I set the fire alarm off burning Mayan incense to "clear the energies"; >) I telly you what - that siren cleared my energies! We didn't have a phone either cause we'd just moved in so I got to meet our friendly local firefighters, too.
Can I consider it checked?

Ahnalira, you made me laugh, cause I set off my fire alarm first night in this house doing nearly the same thing, except mine was a white sage smudge stick! Speaking of which, I just did the sage harvest today - it's gonna frost here soon, gotta get all the herbs cut, washed and hung ASAP! I've been sorta playing roulette with the weather, hope it holds a couple more days so I can get to the 2nd basil harvest and the rest of the Simon & Garfunkel 4-pack...

LOVEE Sage, too
I harvested cedar for smudging purposes when I lived
in the Northwest. It feels really good to participate
in the entire cycle, n'est-ce pas?
Have you ever burned copal? It is the Mayan equivalent to sage in the Yucatan; a sap harvested from the copal tree. I REALLY like the scent of it so I use it most often. I am also fully enraptured and immersed in following the Mayan count of the Tzolk'ien so it just follows for me to call upon the Mayan energies.

Is that something like "mary hartman, mary hartman"?
I've never had an encounter with copal, sounds interesting. Me, I'm a frankincense and myrrh (sp?) kind of gal, harkening back to my Roman Catholic roots. I do think that the Church did some things right, such as setting the mood of sanctuary with aromas, candelight and music (talking about the old music, such as Gregorian chant and the Ave Verum and all that).
Yes, I do love participating in the full cycle! Made a big pot of vegetarian soup today, with a bouquet garni filled with rosemary, thyme, french tarragon, sage, dill and oregano grown by moi! Washed and hung all the sage I collected, twisted one bunch into a smudge and shrouded the rest in brown paper bags (against spiderwebs and dust - I don't really have a proper place to hang herbs in this tiny old chicken coop). The house smells like herbal heaven, mixed with woodsmoke from the fireplace (threw a coupla bricks of Irish turf in for ambiance) and orange candles (promotes memory, I'm studying for a midterm I have to take tomorrow evening). I've got a cedar in the far corner of the yard, but it is really tall and I'd have to get a big ladder to get some cuttings from it. I do like the way cedar smudges, have picked up sticks of it in the past from the local "witch" store or from the Pacific Spirit catalog.

LOL!! You're good to go!
At least you know what it sounds like! You'd be surprised at the number of folks who don't. I like persons better than principles, and I like persons with no principles better than anything else in the world.
