Posted 10-02-02 05:20 PM Curious if anyone out here has tendinitis in the elbow/wrist area? I just got back from the doctor, was sort of hoping this burning pain would go away after 2 weeks but it wasn't. Since I haven't injured myself that I know of, he's thinking it's the continual use of the mouse and keyboard on the computer?????
Anyway, I was wondering if anyone has had it and has any tips. It is not a fun pain at all, wakes me up every hour with the pain.

Posted 10-02-02 06:40 PM Did the doctor give you a brace to wear? That can be helpful. Also, you should look into getting a keyboard that has a pad on it, to support your wrist.

Like Francine said in getting a brace for your wrist and sometimes taking short breaks can make a difference. Someone told me that Ace bandage seemed to help her so you might want to try that.

Thank you Francine and Janie. He didn't give me a brace but suggested I go buy one : )
He just left a huge multi-doc practice to go into business for himself so he's just getting situated. He also suggested that round disc thing that some people wear by their elbow? This is NOT good for my weight training stuff to lose my weight by June!!! I was so hoping the pain would go away, it started in my elbow and graduated down my arm to the back of my hand area on the thumb side. He thinks I started putting weight on the hand to compensate for what the elbow couldn't do anymore?????
I have no clue. I am sort of milking it though with the kids, getting them to do stuff they normally don't do : )

Try putting a strap on your forearm muscle, just below the elbow. Works for me! I like persons better than principles, and I like persons with no principles better than anything else in the world.

Yep, if you can find one of those straps with a little air bag in it, even better. You can center the bag on the tendon and it will impede it's movement.
I know this will sound hokey, but after three years of pain, I finally tried one of those copper bracelets. After about two or three months of green wrist, the pain stopped and hasn't returned.

Thanks and thanks to Coastal also. I thought this would be a 2 week thing but after reading some tendinitis boards, it doesn't look that way. I think it's been a good two weeks since I told you all I couldn't type well. I think what you are refering to Crank is what the doctor suggested. Coastal, I also heard good things about the copper one on a few of the boards. I am going out shopping tomorrow. This is really no fun and a lot of constant pain.
Thanks for everyone's help. I really appreciate it.

Posted 10-03-02 12:30 AM I find it helpful to rest my entire forearm(s) on the desk when typing and mousing. You have to have an adjustable height chair to make this work. There are even some chairs that come with armrest extensions for this purpose, but I like the desk better. I also find that those built in keyboard trays suck out loud large and should not be used. YMMV. Tink *~*~*

That's the way, look for the bright side! Sorry I have no idea what could help, but I hope you feel improvement fast! "Are the fires of Hell a-glowing? Is the grisly reaper mowing? Who can provide the world with the answer to these pressing questions?"

Thanks all for the suggestions. Right now I'm wearing one of those thingys around my arm below the elbow. I guess my doc knew one thing, (he's really a good guy), my hand was hurting around the thumb because of the overuse from not using my elbow area. I quit lifting and doing things as much as possible with my right arm and the hand part is at least feeling better. Wierd thing tendinitis is. I never knew it went from the back side of your elbow over the top of your arm down to the top of your hand on the thumb side. I tried putting the mouse on the left side of the keyboard, that lasted one hour.
