Posted 02-11-03 11:06 AM You can not any longer write letters to Any Service Person, due to the anthrax scare.
So, I have worked out an arrangment with my local air reserve base to get letters to service people.
Westover Air Reserve Base is a major player in all of this. They are a layover for troops who are being deployed from all over the country to parts unknown.
I have set up an email address on my web site. It is AnyServicePerson@franniepoppins.com. You can send emails to that account, and I will hand deliver them to the base. They will be brought to the hangar that the troops arrive at, and given out to whoever might want one.
Please, send as many as you want. I am hoping to have lots and lots to deliver, and will do so a couple of times a week, if I have enough letters.

Good Lord, Janie, what would normal for you be? Let's not scare the folks, okay? No water balloons!

Posted 02-11-03 11:19 AM Here are a couple of web sites that you can use to email troops.
www.operationdearabby.net
www.defendamerica.gov scroll down a little, and look for the box on the left hand side of the page, to email service people.

Posted 02-11-03 02:38 PM If anyone wants to mail a hand written letter to me, to bring to the base, I can include it with the ones I get via email. Just PM me, and I will give you my snail mail address.
If you email a letter, it can be within the email, or you can write it in a Word program file, and attach it to the email. Each letter I get will be put in an envelope of its own.

Posted 02-12-03 09:38 AM I am getting a few letters, and they are nice.
Just to give you some ideas of what to say, if you aren't sure, here is what is being written.
Folks are saying thay are proud of their country. They are saying they are glad to have the oppurtunity to wish someone well as they go off to possibly fight this war. Some of the letters are signed, some have just a first name.
My plan is to copy the text of each email to my Word program, and print out only the text. There will not be any information on who wrote the letter, unless it is in the text of the letter.
This is something that is special because of where these letters are going. These will go into the hands of service people who are on their way, and still dealing with the shock of leaving.
I hope my inbox fills up!
Francine
