I mentioned on another thread that I had a migraine for 5 days last week. I'm not normally a migraine sufferer, although I do usually get one in my first trimester, but only for one day. So I'm wondering what caused this long migraine.

We just moved into a new house, and I was afraid it might be carbon monoxide, but we bought a CO detector yesterday and it's quiet. Yesterday and this morning I woke up headache free, but both days it came back as a sinus headache while I was doing my makeup, and then disappeared when I went outside (and after taking Tylenol Sinus). So what I'm wondering now is if it could have anything to do with my new makeup table. It's unfinished pine, and I bought it last Saturday. The first day I used it was the day my migraine started. I have minor pine allergies (break out in small welts), which has only ever meant that we can't have a pine Christmas tree. And we've bought unfinished pine furniture before and I've never had a problem, although I haven't leaned over it for 10 minutes at a time like I do a makeup table.

Does anyone have any thoughts about this? I don't know if it's the table, or something in my house, or what. I'm starting to dread coming home for fear of getting another migraine. Thanks.

I would check for mold, that and dust you could have kicked up while refinishing the floors.

I too was going to suggest mold or something to do with the carpet that you recently took up. It seems unlikely that suddenly this particular piece of pine furniture is the cause, when you've had pine furniture before. Maybe you are allergic to the rubber backing on the carpet, and exposing it, with the inevitable little pieces, has set you off.

While it could be just the mold and dust I would remove the pine table and see what happens. I also have minor pine allergy with MAJOR reactions including migraines. My allergist specifically warned me about furniture.

Robb, Tink-

Mold and dust and all that were some of the first things I thought of, but since I wake up feeling fine, I'm not sure that's it. And yesterday and the day before, when I got the headaches after using my table, I went out to run errands and the headaches went away. Then I got home and spent the whole rest of the day in the house and I was fine. If it's some sort of house-related allergin, it seems pretty random to me. Thanks for your suggestions though— if it continues to happen, and I have to see a doctor, I'll definitely mention it!

Mary-

This morning I did my makeup in the bathroom, rather than leaning over the table. Poof— no headache! I'm still not totally convinced— I'll probably try the table again tomorrow and see what happens— but I think that may be it. I think the difference between this table and other pine furniture we've bought is that I'm leaning over it for 10 minutes, breathing in whatever, and maybe that's causing the headaches. Has your allergist said whether painting or staining unfinished pine might stop the allergies?

Abra, because I get such severe reactions he advised to not have any pine furniture at all.

I get headaches every once in a while for reasons I'm unsure of. But, the most severe ones come if I'm in the woods, or near any unfinished wood. It is quite possible that wood products are reaking havoc with your sinuses as well.
