Posted 01-27-03 12:02 PM As I'm sure you all know by now, we bought our first house a couple weeks ago, and we've been moved in for about a week. It's nice so far, although our tiny bathroom takes some getting used to, as does the kitchen that was designed by crazy people. My husband's been working hard, pulling up tack strips and staples at every opportunity, although for now we're still walking around in shoes or slippers. The furniture is more or less arranged and boxes are mostly unpacked. Now for the "too much good news"— I'm pregnant. I found out the day after we closed, actually, although I had a sneaking suspicion long before that. This is a little earlier than we planned for a third child, but we're happy. One thing we're not thrilled about is maybe postponing the WDW trip we'd planned for December. I'm due in mid September, so the baby would be about 2 1/2 months old when we planned to take our trip. I'm iffy about taking an infant, but my husband says we should go for it, and just not expect to do a lot on the trip. The trip was for our 10th wedding anniversary, and we were planning to stay at the Beach Club as we did on our honeymoon. So... I don't know. "A crib is a bed with bars on the side of it. It's kind of like a cage at the zoo. Except with a crib, you can put your hand through the bars. And the baby won't pull you in and kill you."- Junie B. Jones

Posted 01-27-03 12:48 PM Congratulations Abra!
I know this is going to sound strange from a guy, but I am the father of a preemie, and on the board of a local chapter of the March of Dimes.
TAKE YOUR FOLIC ACID!
See your Doctor often, and visit the March of Dimes website at http://www.marchofdimes.com to get more information on healthy pregnancies! The March of Dimes is starting a national campaign to lower the incidences of preterm labor on January 30th, and Andy (my son), Renae and I will be featured in news stories on what the preterm labor risks are.
I hope and pray you will never have this problem, but the MOD is there if you need us. Do you know where you are going to deliver? Do they have a NICU? Planning helps, but again I pray you will never need the services of a NICU.
In the past 5 years, the March of Dimes Folic Acid campaign has lowered neural tube defects nationally by 21% (our goal was 15%). Of course, many might know MODs work with Polio, and funded the research for the vaccine in the 50s.
Stay away from paint fumes, and other toxic products. You are eating for two, so have fun (but, not too much!).

Posted 01-27-03 01:11 PM Thanks, Robb. Yes, I take folic acid daily. I don't think you're going to like my answer about where I'm delivering, because I'm planning a home birth. The hospital is 5 minutes away though, and yes, they have a NICU. Thanks for the MOD information.

Posted 01-27-03 02:29 PM Oh yeah, it's all planned for. We're old hands at home births.

Posted 01-27-03 05:40 PM Congratulations! I'm so happy for you! My next question is if the house is big enough for y'all?? I sure do hope so.
And the trip? Well, you have a little while to come up with solutions but I for one think you should still go. It's your 10th anniversary for crying out loud! The money is already earmarked for it and you've been looking forward to it for SO long!
You cold maybe leave the baby with grandparents? You could maybe take a "nanny" along (I'll volunteer! ) for assistance? Are you bringing your other children? Was this supposed to be a romantic getaway? So many questions, so little time, so I'll just say:
CONGRATULATIONS ABRA!
A whole week of peaceful bliss, beginning with a giggle
and ending with a kiss. |

Posted 01-27-03 08:59 PM Hip Hip Hooray!
I am an old pro with tiny babies at Disney I am sure that I will be frowned upon by some but my son was born in May and in his frist trip he was just about 2 1/2 months, In August non the less !
I say listen to your husband and go for it. The baby is going to eat, sleep and poop at home or at Disney , Go sit in s beach chair enjoy the sun watch your other kids play and spend time with your husband! If you need any pointers let me know. And as for the baby in disney thing I had my Dr.s okay and had the name of a a doctor in orlando just in case. I kept the time in the parks short and just enjoyed the hotel and grounds. my sons have been walkers since the day they were born they always had to be moving and it was nice to get up early and walk around and enjoy the quite with my new little disney fan! When you wish upon a star......
If the star listens you get to go to Walt Disney World. Apparently my stars don't hear me .
the wonderful blinkie is from www.disneycafe.com/ visit them they have great blinkies!

Posted 01-28-03 07:31 AM Heh. The house. Well, it's a little small right now, but we plan to expand before the little one starts walking. In the meantime, our daughter has her own room, and our son co-sleeps with us, so when the baby comes, we'll buy a co-sleeping bassinet for next to the bed.
Yeah, we'll probably make the trip after all. My husband called his mom last night to tell her about the baby, and invited her to go to WDW with us. We'll pay for her to go, and she'll help out with the baby and the older kids. She lives about 100 miles from WDW, so this is easier than us having to drive to visit her.
Thanks for the congrats.

Posted 01-28-03 07:35 AM Good advice on the baby-at-Disney thing, Scarlet— thanks. I think we're going to go for it. I think I'll probably keep the baby in my Baby Bjorn or my baby sling. I've heard you can do that on some of the rides, too. Is that what you did? Good point too, about the local doctor. Luckily, we lived in Orlando when Grace was born, so we can always visit her old ped. practice if necessary. Thanks again!

Thanks for the chuckle, Abra.
I'm just getting a mental picture relating back to my comment about mothers breast-feeding on the TOT and as long as the kid doesn't hit mewhen it flies up.....
I don't think you'll have any problems on the quiet rides like IASW, Peter Pan, (watch out for the tigger room on Pooh!). Besides, your mother can hold the baby (Yeah, like you'll have to beg her to do THAT) if you go on wilder rides.

Posted 01-28-03 09:40 AM I was going to say that I've nursed on the Tomorrowland Transit Authority before and didn't know what you meant by the baby flying up and hitting you. Took me a minute to figure out TOT=Tower of Terror... Doh! Yeah, let me see if I can get my mother-in-law to hold the baby... that's going to be a tough sell... ;o)
