I found this picture in some old family stuff. It's the first work truck my grnadfather had. I'd love to print it, and frame it. It is a bit messy, though. You are so good at all of this, and I am just barely learning. Would you want to mess with it for me?

HOLY CRAPOLA!! THAT THING'S HUGE!!!

Hopefully Fantayzya's also on board with this and maybe Crank/Coastal will get involved so you'll have lots of choices when we're done.

Thanks for the assignment! I love playing with stuff like this! I'll see what I can do!

The tape's going to be the hardest
thing to get out of there. Do you
mind 8-bit grey-scale black and white?

I've started working on the tape,
and the final product will be the original
size when I'm done, but it'll be a true
B&W instead of sepia unless you REALLY
want the sepia tone.

Oh what a cool challenge. I have a bunch of photos you've reminded me I want to correcxt once I get my scanner up and running again. I love doing work like that.

Francine:

In the photo's writing at the bottom, it says

Something 38 "One ton"

Is that 1938? something in there looks like
an "L" or maybe that's just a smear.

Let me know so I can clean that up, too.

I don't mind the color change, LL! It is looking so much better then before. It was a big picture that I scanned. This means so much to me. It has huge sentimental value.

It is 1938, that's when the truck was purchased. I don't mind if that stays. It shows how old it is.

Thank you, thank you!!

WHEW! I'm glad you said that. I wasn't sure how I
was going to capture the lettering yet still keep
the swirl of the writing.

I'm happy to do this. It cheers me up working on
something creative!

Here's a final image. I want to sharpen it up a little,
but that puts some more tics and bobs in there that I
don't like, so I'll have to airbrush them out.

In any case, I hope this is the look you want:

Let me do some final work on the sharper
picture and I'll post that one, too.

DOGGONE SILLY THING!
It won't let me post the original size, darn it.

Hang on, let me work on this.

OK, let's try again. This one took a very long
time to get into imagestation, so maybe it'll come out
the right size here.

Fingers crossed!

DAMN DAMN AND CRAPPOLA!!! >:-(

OK. Here's what we're gonna do...

Either we'll have to email each other or MAYBE you can get an email from the icons that come up when the picture comes up. That way you can have an 8x10 that you can print out and frame.

I don't know what I'm doing wrong when trying to get this thing to come out in a large size.

Allrighty then, cover yer ears, girls.

CRAAAAAAAANK!!!
HEEEEELP!!!

I can't get this picture to come up the
same size as Francine's orginal even though
I load it into Imagestation the same size.

Grr!!!

I think I'm gonna have to email it to ya, Fran.

Test:

Edited to add: Boy, it must be Francine's magic picture posting.

The two pictures are identical except I've cropped the one I posted to 8x6".

I believe if both pictures were saved to disc they would display the same.

I agree...I think Francine's bewitched the photo so only
SHE can post the original in it's true size! LOL!!

The good news is that I was able to get an email off to
Francine with my updated photos and when I checked, they
emailed off at the RIGHT size! I haven't done any printing
to prove my theory, but I'm thinking (based on how long it
took them to get out of my box) that they'll be a good
size for her to do a 5x7 or even an 8x10.

She's got several copies so all she has to do is save each
one with a different name (Like Francine(1), Francine
(2)...) and she can play with them on her computer until
she gets the look she wants.

I'm glad to have had this assignment. Picked me right up
out of my depression this morning so everyone wins!
(Except for Crank/Coastal's bandwidth. Sorry 'bout that)

I've gotta get going. Thanks for the entertainment and THANKS CRANK!!!
for trying to get my pics as large as Francine's. I hope
she'll be happy with the results!

HEY!!! Back the banana boat up!!!!

How did you get my B&W pic back to sepia toned?

***edited after doing a side-by-side****

You sly dog you!! That's NOT my pic!! NICE WORK CRANK!!!
You were even able to keep the sepia tone for Francine!

(take a look at the sidewalk differences and the
differences in the rear tire. Cracks are missing in
the sidewalk!)

Okay, now no one knows I teach digital photography, and work consulting with conventional photographers moving over to digital? (I guess not - that's okay)

Great work on the image. One question, is that file in a Photoshop file? Can I get a shot at it, too?

I'd have to say "Help yourself Robb!!"

I didn't know you were also into this stuff. I guess I'd better get on the bandwagon with Photoshop. I had to do all the airbrushing by hand with PhotoStudio.

Hmmm. JPEG. Compression. Damn.

I think the next cool thing would be to tint the photo. Was that a black truck, was the lettering white?

It, most likely, was a red truck, actually. The company has always had red trucks with white lettering.

I just copied the original photo from the top, Robb. Can't you do that or won't JPEG work for you?

JPEG is a "lossy" compression method, where as every image is compressed. Every time you save/resave a JPEG, you are compressing it again. And you will lose quality within that image. I can take the image and save it as a lossless format, but the detail in theimage is already gone. There are many layers of information in a lossless format that can be tweaked without touching the actual overlying image.
