Lesson I learned last night:

Never tease a black cat with your big, pink, fluffy slippers because when you bend down to pet her afterward she'll make her displeasure known.

This was taken a minute ago after ripping the bandage off. We're still not on speaking terms yet.

Well, it wasn't a scratch. Those are TEETH holes, dear!

I don't know, maybe that's why I'm in a prickly mood this morning. I've been reading trip reports and listening to Gay Dancing music to try to blast myself out of this mood, but if it doesn't subsist soon, I'm going to pull out the Pink Floyd and just give in. Wait for it to pass.

I'm just on edge...I don't know why. But maybe it was the cat thing last night. That's as good a thing to blame it on as anything.

Okay, here is the mom stepping in.

LL, I hope you washed that bite really, really well. Cat bites can cause some nasty infections.

Sorry for the mood you are in, and I hope it passes. I think I have a bit of it myself today.

I usually soak the area in Bactine as soon as it happens. When devil kitty was small she sometimes bit and it became the only way she knew she'd hurt mama: the bactine smell.

But thanks for the suggestion. And the mood is lightening up somewhat because I'm at my sister's house so hopefully it'll be totally gone soon.

One suggestion.

Rename your cat.

Fang seems appropriate.

Yeah, cats don't like teasing much.
About the music, I hear it's best to start out matching your bad mood and gradually pull the mood up with brighter music until you're dancing along. It's too much of a shock to you mood otherwise, and you'd only fight a happy song in the beginning.

Er.....Bactine may not help but scrubbing with soap and water does work. I've seen cases of cat bites and scratches (infected dog bites are pretty much rare) that got infected in a big way when I draw some blood from them for a workup (I worked nightshift in ER and believe me, NEVER AGAIN!)

LL, please watch for a low grade fever and redness around the bite. I know I sound horribly bossy but getting rid of the infection is harder than getting rid of a stomach flu. I hope it heals without a problem. (shakes finger at cat) BAD CAT! BAD CAT! (jumps back when the cat snarls at me) Yikes! I better get going.

bye!

You cheer me up so much, Janie! I'm glad you're around.

Regarding bad kitty....the bite is healing, no red, no fever. I guess I expect to be healthy and it happens, so I'm not going to be putting any thoughts about infection or other stuff like that in my head if I can help it. Thanks also for the suggestion about washing it off and using warm, soapy water. Bactine seems to be working well for me so I'm gonna stick with that as my "all around healing potion"

I had a co-worker, though, who had a cat bite that turned rancid on her and she was off work for a week. But, then again, this co-worker is usually in the hospital or doctor's office for one reason or another every two weeks. She expects to get infections, colds, etc and she's never disappointed.

I've still got the water balloon, though. I haven't yet decided if I'm gonna throw it or plant it to grow other ones. (I'm an idiot. I'll admit it. When I was little I used to "plant" eggs and hot-dogs to see if they'd sprout trees)

How did I get dragged into a cat thread (even a scary biting cat thread?) Don't have a cat, don't know nothin' about cats. Except now I know I don't want to tease one and make it bite me.

By the way, LL, I'd hang on to that water balloon if I were you. You know what happens to Janie when she drops them on me!

Oops! I already buried it in hopes of a water-balloon tree this spring. I had a dickens of a time deciding if I should water it after planting it, (watering a water balloon?) but decided to water anyway to give it a good start!
