I'm on a mission!

I am spending NYE with two wimmin friends. One of them recently turned 50 and was morose about it until we did some surfing around about "old wise women" and came upon the concept of having a "croning" ceremony for her.

I'm very excited about creating this ritual for her, and will be incorporating symbolic plants/herbs, colors, fragrances, etc. that not only go along with her "croning", but also with the season (solstice, Yule, Saturnalia, etc.). For instance, I will be making Christina a crown out of all things evergreen from my garden, such as holly, ivy, and pine. Oh and rosemary sprigs from my kitchen and mistletoe that I picked up at the garden center! On Friday night, my friend Lisa will come over after work and we will write the ceremony together, using source material found on the web and in some books we've picked up.

So I'm wondering if any of you had ever been to a croning ceremony, and what your experience was like. I know we are going to have a good time making this passage more positive and meaningful for Christina, and any input/suggestions from the peanut gallery here would be appreciated.

I have a favorite website that I look at nearly every day, but it's in my bookmarks at home. (I'll try to remember to get it to you tomorrow) It's got lots of wonderful things Pagan and, while I don't remember anything specific about Croning, there might be some stuff on there that could help.

In the meantime, I was able to find a few sites that could also help:

http://www.croning.org/pages/534083/index.html

http://cottagesamhain2002.tripod.co...mhain/id45.html

Watch out for that second one, it's a tripod site and you'll have pop-ups on it.

Best of luck with your ritual. Remember the moon cycles and think about whether you're ending something or beginning something. (Again, I'm not at home and don't have my calandar in front of me)

And, as always, have fun! That's what Magic is for!
A whole week of peaceful bliss, beginning with a giggle and ending with a kiss.

Thanks for the links, LL. I had found croning.org the other night, and I also found cronecronicles.com, which is a kind of a neat site. Of course, there's tons of lore about the herbs out there, and fun sites that desribe the various older goddesses in different cultures.

Christina swears she is going to show up in a red dress with knee highs that sag around her ankles. She is definitely going to bring her knitting, and we will sit her in a rocking chair before the altar so she can knit away while we crown her!

What an excellent idea!! Red is the color of passion, and sagging knee highs shows that she doesn't give a darn what people think of her outside, it's what's inside that counts.

Knitting shows that she's creative and is using her experienced gifts to make something fun and useful with the two most powerful tools in our world: her own two hands!

LL, I am so all over The Crone's Cottage site! There's a corresponding yahoo group, which gives links to the latest site updates (apparently, it's a different URL each month). There are recipes for baths on this site, for cryin' out loud! I'm having a feast over here, thanks again for the links.

Oh, and we read that the colors go like this:

maiden = white
mother = green
crone = red

and those happen to be the colors for Winter Solstice and Yule too (along with silver and gold). So Lisa and I will be in green and silver, while Christina gets to wear the red and gold.
