One day last week on my way to the office, I stopped at a Starbucks in midtown Manhattan and called ahead to my staff to see if I could treat them to anything. Since I hadn't had breakfast yet, I also got a few chocolate glazed Krispy Kremes to go with my mocha cap. I distributed the mochas around (they have a peppermint one this time of year which smells really yummy) and settled down to do some email and enjoy my breakfast.

Well, news travelled fast, and two colleagues from another floor showed up at my desk and just stood there. They eventually admitted that they'd come to raid my Krispy Kremes, and I grudgingly gave them ONE to split between them. Sheesh, there went my breakfast, but I guess I and my waistline should thank them, somewhat.

I am embarrassed and slightly ashamed at participating in this thread seeing that I've never HAD a Krispy Kreme.
I promise the moment one makes itself available to my face that I'll partake though.
Are they available anywhere near DisneyWorld?

The area around WDW has several KrispyKreme shops..
you can also get them at Goodings and Publix and Walgreens?
but they're best if you go to the shop and get 'em while they're HOT!
We just recently got a Krispy Kreme shop here in Minnesoda,so I have had to search them out on my travels.

The Krispy Kremes we have in Augusta are awful. I've stopped getting them Well, they aren't *awful*, but certainly are no where near as good as they should be. Last great ones I had were from the *original* Krispy Kreme location. OK! Pop quiz! In what city did they originate??

Krispy Kremes are awful here in the middle of NC also

Tried their glazed - no big deal
and their French Crullers are lead lumps - not airy and fluffy as they should be

to everyone who enjoys them - have fun
but here's one family not buying them - icckkk

Nope, the recipe started in Paducah, Kentucky, and the first offical store was in Winston-Salem, NC. I used to work for the ad agency of KK. It's a southern thing. If it would have started in Minnesota, the doughnuts would be bland, and have white fish filling.

I didn't know about the Paducah Connection, but my sister lives outside Winston Salem. Cool info, thanks for sharing! So why was there not originally a Paducah store?
