I thought it would be cool to start a thread where everyone can post their favorite websites for security help and information.
One place I visit frequently is
http://www.cert.org/
Here is a synopsis of what their site is all about:
"The CERT® Coordination Center (CERT/CC) is a center of Internet security expertise, located at the Software Engineering Institute, a federally funded research and development center operated by Carnegie Mellon University. Our information ranges from protecting your system against potential problems to reacting to current problems to predicting future problems. Our work involves handling computer security incidents and vulnerabilities, publishing security alerts, researching long-term changes in networked systems, and developing information and training to help you improve security at your site."
Of special interest to our readers here is the section on Home Network Security
http://www.cert.org/tech_tips/home_networks.html
I hope that people find the tips on this page useful, and that others will post their favorite security sites here as well.
Regards,

Gibson Research is one of my favorite places.
http://grc.com/intro.htm
I use his Shields Up! utility to test my security settings and make sure that everything is working the way it's supposed to.
Steve Gibson has a lot of really good info on the website, as well, and lots of little free programs to download.

It can take quite awhile... I like persons better than principles, and I like persons with no principles better than anything else in the world.

Crank, do you have to disable your firewall for this to be effective?

Compliments of Robin, another internet site for our Security Toolbox
http://www.cyberangels.org/hacking/index.html
Here's their home page synopsis of who they are:
==============================
Winner of a 1998 Presidential Service Award, CyberAngels was founded in 1995 as the first cyber-neighborhood watch and is one of the oldest in online safety education. Our mission is to function as a "virtual 411" safety destination, and to address the concerns of parents, the needs of children, on-line abuse and cyber crime, while supporting the right of free speech.
IT professionals and law enforcement officers from around the world work together to combat Internet crime, and due to a close working relationship with law enforcement agencies, CyberAngel volunteers have been instrumental in putting child pornographers and predators behind bars, where they belong.
We invite teachers, librarians and parents to work together to teach children and teens how to take advantage of the Internet's vast resources safely, and provide online classes on many topics concerning Internet issues for the general public.
We are here to help you with your Internet safety needs - if you suspect you are being hacked, if you are worried about a virus on your computer, if you would like to learn more about protecting your children (or yourself) on-line, or if you are being stalked or harrassed.
CyberAngels.org continues to both make news and be part of the news. Referenced in a large - and ever growing - number of articles and television clips on computer safety, CyberAngels has become known as "the country's leading specialist on cyber crimes." (Boston Globe. March 10, 2000). We want to keep you informed about the issues that concern your privacy and your safety online. We support YOU, and your children - in making the Internet a safer place for all of us.
We're here for YOU

Here's another site that does a free online security scan of the ports on your computer.
http://www.dslreports.com/scan
They have a few other interesting tests too, such as suggesting tweaks to your computer to get the best results if you use DSL or cable modem.
I toss my cookies for Disney.
I wonder what inspired this new Disney T-shirt? "I'm right. You're wrong. Any Questions?"
