Part 7—Now have fun or else!
We started this day absolutely determined to put yesterday behind us and have a good time. The Magic Kingdom had been had been so much fun on Sunday so we headed there to see if we could find a spark of the magic.
Once again, on Main Street there were so many characters. This was one of the neatest, most magical things to me. All those years ago when I went to Disneyland, I don’t think we saw even one. I don’t know what it is about them, maybe just that they were in the movies and books I grew up watching or maybe we adults just analyze too much. Sam got a few more autographs and finished off his “Alice in Wonderland” set by finding the Queen of Hearts. Sam was glad; my SIL was ecstatic!
One of our goals for this trip was to get Miss Molly’s first haircut on Main Street. Sam’s hair was really shaggy too and that was on purpose. We know how strong-minded Molly is and we thought maybe if Sam had his hair cut first, she would be okay. Cruella was outside the barbershop and one of the bears was running around in that area too. It was very lively and lots of fun.
While I was trying to find a place to park my scooter, Sam started getting his haircut. Well, Cruella had taken off with a little girl across the square and you can imagine the commotion when she came back and found my scooter and me in her spot. What a hoot! She was totally in character and an absolute stitch! The bear was in and out of the barbershop too and we have some terrific pictures of that. Now Sam looked a lot better and it was time to set Molly in the chair. She stiffened her body straight out as a board and wailed! My SIL said, “Okay, that’s it. We’re not going to do this if it isn’t fun” (bless him, see why I love this guy?) The other barber, a woman, said “Let me try,” and she offered Molly a selection of various hair accoutrements. Appealing to her Imperial 22-month-old vanity did the trick and her hair was cut and we had the certificate and pictures to prove it. The bear approached her as he had Sam, but she scared him off with her screams. By now, her fits when the characters were around were just being played for effect. You could see a sly little smile. She was no more afraid than I was. Oh, wait. I was a little afraid of Cruella.
Now SIL shifted into commando mode. He had a map and a marker and by golly, we were going to ride everything we had set out to. I rode on Buzz Lightyear with Sam. He was so sweet to his Nana. He told me all about how the ride worked and not to be afraid. It was another wonderful moment. Then we went shopping at the Buzz kiosk outside the attraction and the CM there was so wonderful. She helped him spend his last $7. She was very kind and extremely patient. He left with a little crush on her. We went on to Fantasyland and rode everything marked on the map and then ate at Pinocchio’s. We had one not too terrific disability experience on the Small World ride. There wasn’t a CM at the entrance to tell me what to do and I ended up having to back out of the queue while the CM apologized to the other people in the queue (for me?). Never mind. It was a small price to pay for the fun of having “It’s a Small World….” going through SIL’s head all day. The rest of the crowd rode Snow White and I headed for Tinker Bell Treasures. I love this store. I could have spent the rest of the day there, but “no,” it was on to Adventureland. We rode Pirates and then I got to tell Sam about his Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather who was either a pirate or a privateer depending on which country you were loyal to before the Revolutionary War. I’m not sure if that is enough “greats” but you get the picture.
Under my SIL’s fierce leadership, we had managed to check off all the rides on his map. Saying goodbye to the Magic Kingdom was awful. I wanted to stay forever. I tried to drag my feet by shopping and shopping, but I couldn’t do that forever.
We decided to give Epcot another chance or rather, I wanted to see the World Showcase and the rest of the group humored me. Sam and SIL rode the Mexico ride. We tried to find the San Angel Inn but only found the cantina and decided to go to Germany instead. We got right in to the Biergarten without a PS or much more than a five-minute wait. This is a very cool place. While we were eating the German band came out and invited people to come down and dance. Sam went down four tiers all by himself and started dancing. During the next song some more people joined in and DH and SIL went down and started taking pictures.
After dinner we went around the whole “world” but didn’t slow very much or see much. We saw glimpses of “Tapestry of Dreams” and when the kids got tired and cranky, we left. “Illuminations” was just starting as we left. That will be an event to enjoy the next time.
I’m already thinking that “next time” had better be sooner than when Miss Molly is five. I can’t stand to wait that long.
Tomorrow we leave.

Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons; for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.
