Part 4- Tuesday
Our plan for the day was to go to Magic Hour at MGM and then to SpectroMagic at MK this evening. We had coffee and Danish from the food court and off we went.
Everyone was in a good mood today. We went straight down center and past the Sorcerer’s hat to the GMR, but it wasn’t open and the CM suggested we go to Muppet Vision 3D. We all loved that and headed on to Star Tours. It was at this point that Sam trying to puzzle out the business of fantasy and reality I guess, because he asked me if Star Tours wasn’t really just a movie when he saw the theater type seats. Well, Nana believes in magic and I said, let’s just wait and see. When the attraction was over, he still wasn’t sure. Why do they have to know so much, so soon? We went back to the Great Movie Ride and then just pretty much rode everything we could find.
We all really loved this park. I met someone later in the trip who was there on the same day and thought MGM had been crowded, but we were either living right or don’t know what a real crowd is, cause we were having a ball!
It seemed to me like we hip-hopped all over this park with no plan or reason or organization and that was sure fine with me. At the Disney Playhouse, Miss Molly seemed to really enjoy being out of the stroller and singing and dancing with Big Bear. She was fascinated and I kept thinking how magical it is that at her age, the Big Bear and his friends and his Big Blue House are as real to her as we are.
We rode the Studios Backlot Tour and Molly, who had fallen asleep on her Dad’s shoulder on the trip from one attraction to another slept through the whole thing…bombs, explosions of trucks, loudspeaker and gangster and guns and she slept, well, like a baby. This had particular significance to an event later in the day.
We were on our way to TOT when the sky opened up and drenched us. I had made the comment that morning that I had dragged my rain slicker from park to park and so far not so much as a drop of sweat had dampened it. Now, I was pulling on my slicker as I was driving my scooter with Molly in my lap and shouting back at the others that they could get slickers at any of the gift shops. I found a table with an umbrella and the crew followed me there. Sam is our fussy one and he hates unexpected, unpleasant surprises like getting wet. The rest of us were laughing our heads off and he just climbed under the table. Miss Molly was covered with a stroller umbrella and kept sticking her head out from under it so she could get wet. When the rain stopped and her mom combed her hair, it stuck out in two straight tails on either side of her head. We have a great picture of her that way. The rain was fun but we were soaked and cold. The lines at TOT were not bad though, so everyone rode that except Molly and I. Sam loved that so much and still hasn’t quit talking about it. I really want to ride it when we go back. From their description of the ride, I think I can handle it and I’ve regretted not trying it.
I had my picture taken with Miss Piggy and we shopped at the Muppet shop. Sam got Minnie’s autograph or rather Matt & Sam did. Matt was like a commando autograph seeker. He has so much energy. I can keep up, but I’m going twelve miles an hour on a scooter!
Still wet and now with the sun starting to set, we decided to forgo going to MK for Spectromagic. This was another example of my having read all this stuff and knowing things were cool, but the rest of family being lukewarm because they didn’t know what I was talking about. I was happy to give it up though, just to able not to rush and have everybody get all ouchy about trying to get some place on time. I think I started planning my next trip at that very moment. I will see that parade!
We hadn’t planned anything in particular for dinner but since we were in the neighborhood, decided to try to get in to Mama Melrose’s. The food and the service were superb and we really enjoyed the meal and our server.
When we came out of the restaurant, it looked like they were beginning to roll up the streets. MGM sure fascinates me. It is so “reality/fantasy.” I wouldn’t utter the blasphemy that this is my favorite park over MK, but it is sure a very close second. We started to leave the park shopping along the way. This park was also very good about disability access and the attitude of the CMs. It really makes a difference in how you enjoy the day.
We were back in the van and Sam, who had been talking about going to play putt-putt that night, was asleep within seconds of shutting the van door. Miss Molly followed soon after. I had volunteered to watch Molly while the rest of them went to putt-putt, but it didn’t look like that was going to be happening. But when the van stopped in the parking lot, Sam woke up and said, “Now can we go play putt-putt? And so they did.
I put Molly on the bed beside me in her pajamas and she was soon asleep while I watched television. Then I nodded off and started to snore. She woke up with a start…the same child who slept through gunfights and bombs and truck explosions earlier in the day at the GMR. I’ll never live that one down.

MGM _is_ my favorite park, and I'm not quite sure why. I think it's just the whole atmosphere -- not one in particular. Thanks for sharing your trip with us!
