November 4- Part 3-Monday
We were very, very tired last night and not just the old folks so I suggested we not do the Magic Hour/Early Entry thing and not set alarms and just get up when we were awake (as opposed to getting up when you’re not awake). Everyone agreed with that and we were still ready to go at 9:00. This is the day we move from All Star Music to Port Orleans so the day will be chopped up anyway. I made a PS for Ohana breakfast and we were off.
DH had been a pretty good sport while having some back trouble the first few days, but on this day he pulled out the old map and started giving directions. I thought he sounded too stern. DD thought he was yelling at SIL. SIL then yelled at the kids to be quiet. I think you might as well ask them to take wing and fly than to be quiet at WDW. DH and SIL are very much alike and were determined to get to Ohana on time. Now this was our first PS so I had no idea how exacting it was, but I still didn’t figure it was worth ruining the day for. I pulled DH aside and suggested he chill out and if he felt so inclined to apologize to SIL. DD was pretty furious with her dad so I suggested she wait and see if they couldn’t work it out between the two of them. Apology was made shortly and accepted and we went in to the breakfast. Now it was DD’s turn to be upset. She felt like Molly’s screaming every time the characters came close was keeping the characters away. Molly now was really just squealing now more for effect than anything else so we ignored her and got the characters to come over.
DD’s favorite character is Goofy and DH’s is Chip and Dale so this was a great breakfast for us. SIL found Chip and Dale and had them come up behind DH and act out behind his back and then pat his head. It was priceless. DD had a lot of pictures taken of her and Goofy. Everybody was happy, happy happy again and we were ready to move on.
We decided to see if our rooms at Port Orleans were ready. Now you will hear my first Disney gripe. When I first booked rooms I told them I needed disabled access which means a roll in shower. I called later and asked for that to be changed because I don’t like parking my butt on a wooden seat where so many other butts have gone before and I can’t stand that long for a shower. I said I really just needed ground floor or an elevator. At AS-Mu, they explained that a King bed room had a roll in shower, but that if we would take a room at Magnolia Bend rather than the French Quarter which I had originally booked, I could have the King room on any floor because there was an elevator. I thought that meant I would have a bath tub and all would be fine. At the registration desk, it took forever to get registered. I had also booked a river view room (Magnolia Terrace). What took so long was that they were putting us in Alligator Bayou and didn’t have a river view. And when we got to our room, of course, it had the roll-in shower. They called from Guest Services to say we would be refunded our money (I had prepaid our rooms) at that moment or the next day or whenever we wanted it. All of the CMs were very nice, but it was a disappointment. DD, et. al. had a river view but at Alligator Bayou that meant a swamp and our room faced the lovely parking lot. I was disappointed.
I wasn’t going to let this ruin our stay either, though and we set off for Animal Kingdom. We did not enjoy Animal Kingdom in the least and for the rest of the trip called it, “Itiztuazu!” Sam couldn’t ride on Primeval Whirl. Though the weather was really pretty pleasant, there it seemed hot and humid. It smelled like a zoo and it looked like a zoo and we only stayed for three hours. I decided later that after you’ve been exposed to the wide open and clean Disney magic, it’s a bit of a shock to find yourself surrounded by all this foliage and paths that are more dirt and wood chips than in any of the other parks. I also think my opinion of Animal Kingdom was shadowed by my disappointment in our room on the Alligator Bayou. There was one pretty wonderful CM experience there, though. A tire on my scooter had started losing air and by going to the place where AK rents scooters and strollers, we were courteously given help with my tires. Again my DH helped, but the CM was friendly and accommodating.
It was time to get on over to MGM for our PS for Hollywood and Vine and then Fantasmic! When I booked the PS, a dinner PS for 4:50 seemed awfully early, but by the time we had waited, talked with the waitress several times, made trips to the buffet to get food for the kids and had dessert; it was time to line up for Fantasmic! with our dinner passes. I was glad to have my scooter. That was quite a trek for Sam and the rest. Since I was the only one who had done any reading about Fantasmic! I hoped the rest of the gang would be happily surprised. Again, it was a whole gaggle of moments that will be frozen in my mind forever…the looks on Sam’s and Molly’s faces and the enjoyment of all the rest of us. It was also the first time in the trip that they all turned to me and said, “Thank you, thank you, thank you.” Very nice way to end the day.

Posted 11-21-02 11:44 PM I can't believe that we were at Alligator Bayou at the same time as you (Nov. 3-10) We were supposed to be at the Mansions or Magnolia Bend, anywhere but Alligator. I was so disappointed when we found we were in Alligator! I almost cried but actually grew to love the place. It is alot closer to the main pool and food court though. I just didn't like the rustic look of the gorunds and the rooms but it did start to grow on me. I wish I would've gotten to meet you. With all those New Jersey accents it would've been nice to hear someone speak English. Since I grew up in the panhandle of Texas, we talk alot like you Oklahoma hicks!

Since I am becoming so severely addicted to everything Disney, maybe we will get to meet sometime yet.
I just loved that there were so many New Jersey people there. It felt like we were in New Jersey only with Disney and the Florida weather. My daughter had me in stitches last night imitating (imitating, not mocking)some people who were behind her in the hideously long line at check-in. This may be a huge generalization, but after living in the South where people say, "You, Bitch...." with such a sweet, soft Southern accent, hearing people from Jersey tell it like it is, is just refreshing!
Do we know why we ended up in Alligator Bayou? Was all of Magnolia Bend closed? I also forgot to mention that we were supposed to be adjoining or close to our kids' room and were way around the other side of the building!
We will meet yet, I'm sure of it and what fun will have, won't we? Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons; for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup.

Gosh, Tink, I hope there won't be 100 parts! I'm using up whole parts of my workday as it is trying to get all this down before I forget anything! And I also hope the reports will get shorter because there won't be so much first time ooh and ah! Thanks for the thanks.
