The cast: Me, Jo Ann, 52 and Nana to Sam and Molly; Paul, 55 and Boppa to Sam and Molly; Becky, 31, Mother to Sam and Molly; Matt, 30, Father to Sam and Molly; Sam, 5; and Molly, 22 Months
This is the day! Sam bounds in to our room at the LaQuinta in Mobile, Alabama and asks if we will be in Disney World tonight. None of us can believe the day is finally here. We have been talking about this trip since Sam was four and he is 5 & 1/2 now.
The whole day sort of passed in a euphoric fog. We celebrated being in Florida. Our celebrations consisted of clapping and cheering (Yay!) and grinning like idiots, all except for Molly who maintatined her dainty dignity. We celebrated the first sign we saw that said Walt Disney World. We celebrated when we hit Ocala cause we were feeling more "Disney" by the mile. At Ocala, the Walt Disney World maps started coming out of everyone's travel pouches and boxes and bags. We started debating and discussing exits and highways and thngs I'd heard about highway messes. We encountered the new and old exit numbers and that took us a few miles to figure out. For one awful moment I thought I'd gotten us lost and that we were headed for Tijuana: rolleyes(sarcastic) Now we celebrate as we take the exit. Now we celebrate as we enter "the world." We celebrate the McDonald's. We celebrate as we enter the All Star Resorts. I realize my mouth has been hanging open for a few miles and I haven't blinked in all that time either. The bright colors of the All Star Resorts reflect our exuberant mood exactly and I am so happy I have chosen these resorts for the first two nights. Sam simply says, "Wow!" I can't stand in lines or walk too much and we haven't unpacked my scooter out of the van yet, so my DH and DD go to the queue (which doesn't look too long and seems to be moving quickly). My SIL can't stand the anticipation and soon joins them. Now, I have another totally newbie comment. I had never heard anyone comment about the clever little sitting areas with cartoons that are set up in the waiting area of the regitration halls. This just delighted and amazed me. Y'all may be used to this bit of Disney magic, but I wasn't. Here were my 5 year and 22 month old grandkids tired, but excited after riding in a car all day and now they had to wait some more. This was just wonderful. They climbed up on these little bleacher things with other little kids and were where I could watch them and the cartoons and were as content and happy as could be. Registration only took 15" and we were on our way. We were full of "oh, looks" and "wows" and "cools" all the way to our rooms. Our rooms were adjoining and completely adequate. The kids were enchanted and I didn't think they were too garish. The way the All-Star Resort rooms had been described in some guides and internet boards, I was afraid we'd be kept awake at night by the ambience. I don't remember what building we were in but there was a saxaphone on it and it wasn't far from the quitar pool and that's where everyone but me headed as soon as we were in our rooms. After their swim, we were off to the food court which I think is another bit family magic genius. It was perfectly accessible on my scooter and easy to maneuver and all the cast members were helpful and friendly. We had a "family meeting" as we ate our dinner and agreed to go to Magic Kingdom for what was called "Early Entry" and is now called "Magic Hour?" We decided to get up at 6:00 and be at the Magic Kingdom gates at 7:15. The question at the end of this big day is how will any of us sleep?

As one Nana to another . . . I am LOVING your report! It's bringing back such happy memories of my very first trip (as a single mother with two teenagers back in 1988). Can't wait to see what you celebrate next!
