Posted 11-09-02 03:21 PM Cast: John and John, aka the Johns. Veterans of the Wonderful World of Disney. Staying at Old Key West.
Sunday, November 3, 2002. The last day.
Again we awoke to an absolutely perfect day. It is checkout day, but our flight is not until 6:50PM.
The plan for the day is to start our at Epcot, then take the monorail to Magic Kingdom around noon. We arrived at Epcot in time for opening. The Character Caravan, aka Bus, was out front in the "Graveyard." We got a shot with Goofy, then headed on to breakfast. We tried the Food Court at the Land, but didn't see anything interesting for breakfast although John wanted Chocolate Fundge Cake. Nope!! Not for Breakfast. So, we went to Electric Umbrella. I had a Breakfast burrito. It was okay, but a bit prepacked in texture. John had cereal and fruit.
After breakfast we went to Innoventions for a look. It was okay, but I always feel like time spent there could be better spent. That's just me. Smaller likes the exhibit areas at Epcot. Thus, after Innoventions we went to the Health Pavillion so he could try out all of the activities. Next stop was Test Track where we once again picked up Single Rider cars and were in and on in no time. This time John was a few cars behind me. He was in the load line when I got on. I waited at the end of the exit area for his arrival. I then convinced John that it was time to go to Magic Kingdom. We had a lunch PS for Tonys at 1:15.
Off to the monorail. We asked to ride up front as we always do once a trip. Waited for the next monorail, and were on our way. There was another little boy and his dad up front with us. The boys had a great time counting the track towers. As we exited at TTC, we received our copilot cards. I carry mine proudly in my walet. Must grow up, must grow up. We decided to take to Ferry over to Magic Kingdom. As we arrived, we found many, many characters. They were everywhere. Quasimoto, Frollo, Rebecca( a tailspin character), The cute mice from Cinderella, Big Al and Liverlips, etc. The increase in characters is extremely cool. We made our way to the Barber shop as John wanted his haircut there, and he desperately needed it. There was quite a group waiting for there turn, including many cast members, so we went ahead to Tony's for our lunch.
Okay, my son was ticked that there are Pooh Characters in a Lady and the Tramp themed restaurant. He, in fact, almost refused to acknowledge the characters when they came by. Alas, I have to agree that I like Tony's better Character Free, which was in fact his comment. We did however have alot of fun. Our server was from Laos, and spoke Thai. We had lived in Thailand, so I brushed off my best Thai, and the server and I communicated in my best Kindergarten Thai through the whole meal. John had the Cheese Ravioli from the kid's Lady and Tramp themed menu. I had Chicken Parmesian. It was okay. Not at all great. The apetizer was a Tomato/Mozerella dish, and I had the tiramisu for dessert. Very good.
Now, back to the barbershop. The family we were behind 1 and 1/2 hours ago are just coming out. It is still a bit crowded. So, we go back and John rides Astro Orbiter. I wait. That is another barf ride for me. Back to the Barbershop. Still a crowd, but we decide to wait it out. Meet alot of CMs. Enjoy the atmosphere. We are still there when it is time for the parade. However, it is the last few feet of the parade, so no crowd. John watches as I wait in the shop, still able to see. We see the Grand Marshalls, and I get a bit Single parent, one kid frustrated knowing that our "Group" would never qualify for GM. Oh well. Must get a wife and one more kid. Maybe then. Finally, the parade ends just as a chair opens up for John. Bessie is his hair cutter. We take a before picture. She begins, and tells him alot of Haunted Mansion trivia and stories as she works. At the end, she puts in the gel, Red, and puts on the Mickey Cape, gets out the big Plastic scissors for the after photo. But Wait!! The White Rabbit from Alice comes in, takes the scissors, and wow!! A great moment with the camera.
After Haircuts we picked up John's one souvenir, a large Mickey Pez dispenser. You keep your Pez candy packages in it for the small ones. Cute. Sitting on a table in my living room. Sorry, John. We get to the monorai, find our car, which took some doing as we recorded the wrong row, went to the Exxon onsite to change for our flight, and arrived at the airport at 5:30. Checkin was quick. We had a layover in Atlanta, and John was under orders to sleep the Atlanta-Houston leg, which he did. We were at the car at midnight, and back home at 12:45.
The trip was awesome. It is already planned again for next year. I loved the Food and Wine Festival. The weather was perfect, and the crowds, while not exactly tiny, were very managable. Riding Test Track occurred 4 times. Up front on the monorail is always wonderful. Seeing old "Friends" at Old Key West is special. The White Rabbit in the Barbershop...Extra Magical. Hopefully we will return in 6 weeks for Christmas. We are reserved, but I am considering cancelling and going later. Perhaps early June.
Thanks for reading again.
