Cast: John, 42, Single Father Extraordinaire. Trip 20ish. John the
Smaller, 9, Trip 15.
Today was our travel day. I was up late Wednesday night getting
everything packed and ready to go. Went to work, leaving at 2:30 to
pick John up from school by 3:00 and head for the airport. The trip
to Houston Intercontinental was painless as it was still early. We
parked at the Satellite lot for $6 a day. Shuttled over to the Delta
terminal...there's that word again. "Terminal." What a great place
to board an aircraft. Check-In was smooth. We were traveling First
Class using mileage. Our first flight left Houston right on time at
5:19. We connected in Dallas for Orlando. Our Dallas to Orlando
flight was nice. Good Snack. Though we're not huge Halloween fans,
it was fun to see the aircraft decorated inside. Also, Flight
Attendants passed out candy. John got a small bag of candy with a
game in it. Nice touch.
We arrived in Orlndo at 11:00PM, picked up one bag, and headed to
National. I normally do the Emerald Aisle, but had used a Discount
Code that required we go to the counter. Once checked in, the agent
sent us to the Aisle anyway. Got a great Pontiac with low miles. $71
total. Thanks to Mousesavers for the discount code. I was allowed to
combine with Disney Club.
Our hotel for Thursday night was excellent. I highly recommend it.
We stayed at the Renaissance Westgate. Very, very nice. The clerk at
check-in asked us where we wanted to be, and we went for the top floor
facing Disney Propery. The room was also on the end. There was a TV
armoire with a refrigerator under, and a counter along one wall. We
were very happy with the room, and a bit sad that we arrived at
midnight only to check out around 7:00AM. Total for the room was $50
via Priceline.
Travel went very smoothly, and we had a good nights rest to head into
the World with.
