OUR TRIP TO WALT DISNEY WORLD (aka— NEVER, EVER AGAIN)…
Never, ever again! That is, “never, ever again” will we go to Florida in any month other than December or January. Was it hot? YES, it was hot! I grew up in Florida, I lived there until I was 25, but I must be spoiled now for the mountain air because I was absolutely miserable. We all were. But we had some fun, too.
Day 6 (Magic Kingdom)-
It’s at this point that our days start blending together into one big sweaty mess, but I’ll try to remember the best stuff.
We had breakfast in our hotel room again (see Day 5), then headed out to the car. The seats were still very wet from our clothes the night before, and the car itself smelled like mildew. We put down paper towels on the seats, but when we got to MK the backs of our shorts were wet. Also, the rain must have “reactivated” a small chocolate ice cream stain on the passenger seat, so when I got out I had a brown streak across the back of my shorts. Lovely. We wiped off what we could, and said the hell with the rest. We got to the TTC right before they opened, and headed for the monorail, which Grace and Charlie both loved. Then, on to the security check, through the turnstiles, and over to the stroller rental. I noticed some postcards in a gift shop, and (according to Ken) wasted valuable Dumbo Time buying them. We then headed to Dumbo (per the Unofficial Guide) and at 9:15 were pleasantly surprised to see only 20 or so people on line (and you can bet I rubbed that in Ken’s face!). We walked right on, and then rode again within 5 minutes. I took some great pictures of the kids and of the castle while we were on there. After our 2nd ride on Dumbo, we rode Winnie the Pooh, Peter Pan, Small World, the carrousel, the tea cups, and the speedway. From there we went to Toontown Fair, where due to crowds, heat and hunger, we only did Goofy’s Barnstormer, which Grace and Charlie loved. Lunch was at Cosmic Ray’s, where we all enjoyed Sonny Clipse (sp?). The kids and I had chicken strips and fries (which I wasn’t too interested in, but was too lazy to get in the other line for a salad), and Ken had a burger. At this point (it’s a little fuzzy) I think we went on Buzz Lightyear, where I kicked butt! After that we rode the Tomorrowland Transit Authority, and then Ken took the kids back to Cosmic Ray’s to cool off while I rode Space Mountain. From the time I walked into the building, until I got out of the rocket, was 10 minutes. We decided to head over to see the Country Bear Jamboree, and then rode the Magic Carpets of Aladdin. The seats were extremely hot from the sun, so I had Charlie sit on my lap. I’m surprised they don’t do something to keep them cooler. I’ve never noticed that problem on Dumbo, but then, I’ve never been on Dumbo in the afternoon. By the time we got off the Aladdin ride, we were feeling hot, so we got a couple citrus swirls from the Sunshine Tree Terrace. They were good, but the citrus part was more sour than I expected. When we done eating, we were so sweaty and uncomfortable (not to mention disappointed that the Haunted Mansion— our favorite ride— was closed for refurbishment), we got on the train back to Main Street. We got to ride up front on the monorail, and they gave the kids “co-pilot” licenses, which I don’t remember them doing before. We went back to the hotel, where we had just enough time to shower and dress (not part of the original plan) before heading to our priority seating at Chef Mickey’s. We arrived a few minutes early, and they were able to seat us almost right away, right after the obligatory family picture. Grace ate salad and parmesan mashed potatoes, Charlie ate chicken strips and mac and cheese, and Ken and I had a little bit of everything. The characters were fun, especially during the napkin waving, which Charlie REALLY got into. He managed to fling food at Grace with his napkin. At one point, Goofy snuck up behind me while I was eating, and grabbed my arms, which made me scream, so of course the whole restaurant turned to look at me. Embarrassing, but pretty funny (Ken and the kids sure thought it was funny!). Grace loved seeing Minnie Mouse, and wore her new Minnie Mouse ears and bow headband I’d bought her especially for that dinner, and Charlie had a great time hugging the characters. We were really surprised by that, because even though he was good with them on our last trip (when he was 17 months), lately he’s freaked out over the characters we see at storytime, and we didn’t expect a good reaction at Disney. Anyway, we all had a little of everything for dessert, rejected the family picture, and then headed back to our hotel. We’ve never stayed at the Contemporary, and that dinner was our first time there, but Ken and I agreed that we probably wouldn’t feel comfortable there with the kids. It seemed very convention-oriented. But we’ll definitely be back for Chef Mickey’s!

Day 7: Ow, ow... there's sweat in my eyes!
