Posted 01-04-03 05:05 PM Cast: Cast for the Journey: John, 42, Old Widowed Man, pushing trip 20
at WDW, DVC member. John the Smaller, 9, now at trip 16.
Resorts: Saturday 12/21: Four Points Lakeside.
12/22-29: Old Key West, Studio
Weather: Well, a perfect day for touring WDW.
Pet Peeve of the Day: The CM at a show is directing you where to sit, and you ignore her and go somewhere else that is not yet being seated. All the while I follow the CMs directions to crappy seats because I am trying to teach my kid right from wrong.
Today we made an early beeline to MGM Studios. We were at the gate prior to opening, in hopes of getting alot done pre-crowd time. We had success. When the park opened we walked briskly to Rock n Roller coaster, and had a walk-on. We walked right onto the Great movie ride...not even a flicker of film time in the que. Next we picked up Fast Passes for Indy Jones. Our first stop after this was Star Tours. This is one of those puke rides for me. We walked right into the loading area, and when the doors opened I walked straight out and waited for smaller at the exit. I had a nice chat with a fellow motion sickness person while John rode. Next we hit Muppet Vision. Still fun after all these years. Gotta love the old farts in the balcony. Gonna be me someday, I just know it. We left Muppet Vision and headed back toward the Hunchback stage. The back wall and bleachers are gone, but the stage and sets are still in place. Did I mention that I thought the Clopin we met in France was one of the ones from the show?? Could it be?? We passed through the passageway by the Bugs Life playground, and went to check on catching the first show at Millionaire. The line was way long, so we skipped and went to the backlot tour. They did not do the pre-tour demo due to cool weather. We were pretty much sent straight through to the tram. Our tourguide was a bit hard to understand. This is the same old same old. The only thing new was that you actually do get wet when the tram is in the Catastrophe Canyon. Was always a warning, but it had never happened to us before. It was time for the Indy show by now. This is where the pet peeve comes into play. We ended up about midway in the center section. This is fine for me, but smaller cannot see a thing. All the while, the CM tells people where to sit, and groups make their way to the left section for front row seats. I don't know how many times this trip I wanted to say, "Screw teaching Smaller to follow the rules!! It's everyman for himself." Just can't bring myself to it though.
After the show, it had happened. We are now looking at 11:30ish, and the park is packing em in. We stopped to watch one of the Streetmosphere players by the dining ressie booth. She was giving park hints from the time board, telling people about fast pass, etc. She was also giving out villain post cards for quiz questions. The one I knew was "What is different about the Disney Stars and Motor Cars parade today??" Easy, they were running the parade all the way down New York Street this week. Got my cards, talked to one of the players that was guesting that day rather than working, then left.
When we left MGM we went straight to Beach Club to tour the Villas. They are beautiful. I would never, ever put 8 people in a 2 bedroom there. Way too small. Give me Old Key West for room to spread out. The studios at BCV were awesome though. Will definitely stay there sometime. I gathered my BCV member pin they gave us for touring, and made a ressie to talk to DVC about more points. My bad. Beach Clu points are $84 each with no incentives, and interest about 12%. They were offering a pretty decent buy back on Vero Beach points, but I was looking for BCV. Never mind.
John had hit Crabby mode, so we took a bit of a break then went to Fantasia Mini golf. This started out disasterous as John couldn't hit the ball. The when he finally did I had to yell, "Fore." He did get better, and we had a fairly nice game. You receive a 50% discount on Mini Golf with Annual Passes. Just over $8 for the two of us. Not bad.
We left Fantasia and headed to Animal Kingdom. AK was closing at 7:00 and visions of Nightime Safari dnaced in my head. Not to be. Safari closed at 4:45. The park was swarming with people, so we left. We had a nice dinner at Olivia's and called it good for the day.
All in all it was a very good day. Wish I could have some BCV points though. The crowds are frustrating. We have ben before Christmas...leaving for home Christmas day, and after Christmas for New Years. Never, ever again Christmas week. We were able to accomplish quite a bit by arriving at the parks for opening, but once the crowds hit, forget it.
Saturday is coming. Not sure where we ended up, let me think...mmmm....Oh, Epcot. Duh. More to come. John

Posted 01-04-03 05:31 PM Hey John,
I know you are not done yet but did you run into all that Texas rain on your drive home?
We have not yet made a commitment to DVC. I really want to. David wants to talk to you some more. OK to give him your e-mail address? You WILL encourage him, won't you? We are also looking at the resale market. I liked Patti. She said she talked to you about more points. We already missed the incentive period but if we buy directly with DVC by the end of the month, we will actually get 2 years worth of points this year. Woo Hoo! Can you tell I want to do this?

Posted 01-04-03 07:29 PM Mary,
I would be happy to try and sway David. You can get a much better deal on resales...about $65-72 a point. The downside is they will only finance 5 years and you pay closing. I needed the 10 years that Disney allows. I was also able to sell back 1/2 of my points for my down payment.
I missed the worst of the storm driving. We hit rain about Lake Charles, and were in it home. Home is only about an hour and a half after border, so not bad. The worst came Saturday night, but it fizzled very quickly. The Monday before there was a tornado very close to our house and we lost power. I need to find out how long. The ice in my freezer was pretty much a chunk. I am thinking I need to toss everything in freezer. Bummer.
