12/30 The Tambu Lounge meet

Cast: Mary, David and Dale

This was a planned day off. Us old(er) folks need to rest for the long NYE day. I did schedule a DVC tour for late morning after David expressed interest. I also schedule lunch at Whispering Canyon Cafe as we planned to tour the MK resorts for holiday decorations. I was making it for 2pm and when the CM is starting to give me the PS # I slap my forehead and say 'no, that won't work, have to be at the Poly at 3' so I change it to 1:30.

The DVC van picks us up at 11:40 and we are off to the Boardwalk. I had used John as my referral in case he got some sort of special gift or benefit from that. Also meant I got to talk to his rep, Patti. She was great. Realized very quickly that she had to sell David, not me. David left at one point and Patti even commented that I sounded like an owner, I just needed to pay. We tour ALL their models and now Dale seems to think that if we buy he is coming on all our trips. Hate to burst his bubble, but...We finish up and it is clear that we will not make it to WCC on time. I request that they call and inform them that we are running late. When we arrive at WCC they have already checked us in even though we are not there. DVC clout? We are seated in about 5 minutes and all order the skillet lunch. I thought the ribs were dry and overcooked. The rest was good though. Our server was no fun. Tigerlily commented later that he was probably seasonal help. That would make sense. Saw a bride in the WL lobby, the justice of the peace, bride's father, maid of honor but no groom. That would really suck, being left at the altar at a Disney wedding. I didn't look on the way out, but I assume the wedding went off without any problems. Realizing that it is 2:50 and no way I am going to make it to the Poly by 3 on Disney transportation I ask Bell Services to call us a cab. It seems to take forever to arrive but we finally pile in and head over.

Arrive at the Poly just after 3 and race up to the lounge, leaving David and Dale in the dust. Hey, they knew where I was going and how to get there. No one around. I forgot to buy the tin foil on our grocery stop. Just a little embarrassed, I ask the bartender if he might possibly be able to find me some. No luck. I am just turning around and see a guy headed toward the bar. Not realizing I have my Passporter pouch and nametag hanging around my neck I am approached with a cautious 'Mary?' I respond with 'Ajax?' Remember when I promised Ajax a great big bear hug when I met him? I didn't have the chance! He captured me in a tight embrace before I could move. OK, Ajax has a beard. He said he looks like Richard Gere and I won't dispute that. We proceed over to the area which David and Dale had staked out and pull up chairs. Ajax tells me about the Lunarlady saga, being attacked by folks from other web sites. I am surprised. I thought things were slow at CG before I left. Ajax says I have a lot of reading to catch up on. Ajax and I head back to the bar for cocktails-Pina Colada for him, Mai Tai for me, MGD for David and O'Douls for Dale. Ajax's wife and daughter stop by to say hi, get money for drinks. They stay and chat for a while but are interested in checking out the Poly so off they go. Dale follows as he wants to have a smoke and I told him not during this meet. We must have been obvious or something because Andrea aka Tigerlily comes up and asks us if by chance we are from Common Ground. Of course! Join us, please. I tell them about our DVC tour and mention that David is wanting to start asking questions of other DVC members. Andrea is a member so they start chatting about that. Ajax and I are talking about something, I don't know what. We all keep scanning the area for Ahnalira and Alan. Finally, I see them slowly making their way to a table at the back of the bar and go grab them. We dragged chairs and were sitting in a circle just outside the actual bar. We have great fun talking about CG and YKW. This group now has David's attention on the subject. (He left here about an hour ago after having spent 3 hours reading the 'Best of RiRi.' He realizes that he gets a lopsided view of the situation from me but I heard him hooting with laughter while I was preparing dinner). So, we have loads of fun, laugh A LOT and then Ajax has to leave for his dinner PS. We continue talking and laughing seeming either not knowing how or not wanting to end the meet. We finally figure it is time to go and Tigerlily asks about a picture. Seems Ahnalira did not bring her camera. I have my digital and am distressed that we did not do this while Ajax was here. David takes our picture, we all hug and we're off. I still have not loaded my pix onto the computer but I will send it off to Ahnalira as soon as I do so she can post it. Thank you all for a most enjoyable time.

I am so excited about the success of the meet that I forget to tour the GF to see their holiday decs. I did get to see them last month but wanted David to see them. Oh well. We wait forever at the Poly (40 minutes) for a bus to Downtown Disney. By the time it arrives the 3 people originally waiting has become a busful. Seriously, not one seat available and almost all standing room gone. Still have to go to GF for pick-up. Fortunately, there a just a few people there who squeeze on and we are off. We get Downtown and shop. By the time we get done, it is again after 10pm. Not really getting much rest on this rest day. Take the boat back to Riverside and go off to bed.

Hi Mary! Glad you had a good time, it was great to meet you folks. You're a fine collection of good people. I forgot about the picture too, even though I had a camera on the floor next to me. In case you couldn't tell, I was toast.

We just rolled in about an hour ago, I'll post a trip report within the next few days.

PS, I look about as much like Richard Gere as Earnest Borgnine does. It's a family joke. We were visiting my in-laws cabin in northern Michigan several years ago on a cross-country ski trip. My brother-in-law had been there all winter, alone for the most part. One evening while I was preparing dinner he said to me- 'Has anyone ever told you that you look like Richard Gere?' We promptly took him into town to meet some women.
Did you see me at EPCOT on New Years Eve? I was wearing a yellow poncho...
