Posted 12-23-02 12:03 AM Cast: Cast for the Journey: John, 42, Old Widowed Man, pushing trip 20 at WDW, DVC member. John the Smaller, 9, now at trip 16.
Resorts: Saturday 12/21: Four Points Lakeside.
12/22-29: Old Key West, Studio.
Weather: Another perfect day with clear blue skies and mild temperatures. WOW!!
Pet Peeve(s) of the Day: (1) The Cast Member who was totally miserable during our check-in. Responded, "Most of what you read online about this place is bogus," after I had told her I had heard complaints about noise at the location we were to be in. It was a building that backs up to one of the main roads on property. She then asked where I would like to be. I named 3 general locations, and she replied, "Figures." BAH!!!
After our joyful check-in, by the way our first ever in well over 10 stays at OKW, we went for breakfast at Olivia's. I had an Egg Beaters Omlet. John had cereal. I also learned that a glass of juice costs, $3.25-ish. Next time, Water.
We were then off to the bus stop for our journey to Magic Kingdom. We had a nice chat with a CM who was busily logging the buses as they arrived. John traded a couple of pins with her, and left with his first "CM Lanyard Pin." Another kid about John's age with no pins had trouble grasping the concept. He just thought you traded anything. Tried his room key card. Was getting ready to try a safety pin when their bus arrived.
We arrived at the Magic Kingdom around 9:00AM, and were off for our haircuts. Discussed "Sweeney Todd," and "Little Shop of Horrors" with the barber and one of the Barber shop quartet singers who was hanging out there. John gave his barber a picture he took with her that we turned into Christmas cards. He left with Blue and Silver Gel...Not unlike some of the ladies at church. =0)
We stopped to get Princess Aurora's (aka Sleeping Beauty) autograph. We headed to Frontierland planning to pick up Fast Passes for a ride. Turns out we didn't need them, and walked onto Splash Mtn., and had only a 15 minute max wait for Big Thunder Mtn. We also walked onto Pirates.
We next decided on an early lunch at Columia Harbour House. Yes, "Again??" I had the salad, and John had Bologna and Cheese. We went upstairs to one of our favorite dining areas located over the walkway from Fantasyland to Liberty Square. Very quiet and great for people watching.
After lunch we decided to head to the front and take the monorail to Epcot. As we passed through the Christmas store in the MK, we found Snow White by herself, and got the book signed. We left and took the monorail to TTC then hopped on for Epcot. Once there we rode Spaceship Earth, and then had our first real life encounter with a "Pin Shark." No thanks, we'll stick to CMs. We rode Test Track via the Single Rider line, and then picked up Fast Passes for later. They were much later, but we planned to return to Epcot after dinner, so they were fine. As our Fast Passes came out, we noticed a second one attached to them. Our passes were for 7:00PM, and they had "Surprise" passes attached for "Honey I Shrunk the Audience" between 3 and 5.
Anyone else every experience this when getting a FP?? Just curious if this is something new, or just something we missed. After Test Track, we went and rode Imagination. It was then time to return to OKW to get moved into our room.
We ended up in a great location. A bit noisy in terms of buses, but nice. For all of you OKW groupies out there, we are in building 45 on Trumbo Canal. We set up our small Christmas Tree, and put all clothing in its appropriate place.
Dinner tonight was at Chef Mickeys. The food and service were wonderful. At one point during dinner they put some beautiful chocolates on the dessert section. Rose cut chocolate shaving filled with a peppermint cream. The people at the table next to us had them, and next thing I knew, we had them thanks to their Grandfather. Wow!! I had a good time joking around with Goofy. He was really getting into the Santa Belly thing, which I have naturally, and we got into a Santa Belly match. He thought it was funny. I did, too. Fun.
Around 6:30 we made our way via monrail to Epcot. We sat up front with CM who shares my job...He teaches 4th grade. It was enjoyable talking with him. When we got back to Epcot we rode Test Track...anyone else have a kid with a single ride fixation? We, I suspect, on a trip this length will ride Test Track at least 10 times. After Test Track we went to Mexico for a churro, rode the boat, rode Maelstrom, then stopped by Ice Station Cool for a few sips before leaving. While there, a custodian and I chatted for awhile, then he gave John a park collector card, and an Epcot Holidays Around the World CM Pin. Nice touch of Magic. Way overshadowed our check-in experience.
We returned to OKW and readied for bed, and another great day tomorrow. We plan on hitting Magic Kingdom early in the day, then having Lunch in Japan.
More to Come. John
