Can someone explain to me what exactly the Readers Clubhouse (now Magic Alley) is complaining about? I was offline from July through November! What did these certain people accuse them of doing? Their website legal info is very, very vague. It sounds like they're a little nutty.

Tiggergirl,

How did you find your way to this website?

I did a Google search for Readers Clubhouse discussion forum, and I found Outback. I read it for awhile, and then went to the main page. I read for awhile, and decided to register. I am ergistered at other Disney discussion forums. Why do you ask? Am I not welcome?

P.S. I bought the YKW book last Spring, and had accessed Readers Clubhouse before going on vacation in June. When I just tried to access Readers Clubhouse today, I fought this rant and rave about people attacking them. It seems to be common knowledge among several Disney fans about what happened, but I don't know, and their website is too vague.

Why would you even presume to not be welcome? I was just curious how someone who had been offline so long would find their way to this site.

It may be vague because nothing actually happened to them. The FBI has denied involvement in any investigation. The lawyer for their publishing company has denied any kind of victimization or legal involvement, etc.

You should ask them. We have asked, asked for contacts etc.

Most people here are happy to let it lie, since RCH has ceased the active propoganda.

Pull up a chair and stay.

I am not the welcoming committee but I am sure they will be along soon.

Just keep reading the site and all will be made clear. You may have to go back into the archives, though.
I'd rather be happy than right.

Hello tiggergirl,

well, if you've been offline that long, you missed a lot. It would truly take too long to explain to you and would end up becoming an epic novel to rival War and Peace!

My best suggestion is to go back to google and read RADP,starting circa April 2002, then come back here and start at the beginning of the archives for Out Back.

Edited to correct the year!

I guess it was the fact that, rather than answer my question, or say "I don't know", you asked me how I had found this website.

I was too busy with school to be fooling around on the internet with Disney stuff, from mid-summer right up until Christmas. Also, I had just been to Disney, so I had had enough for awhile.

It's not that unusual for people to be out of touch for awhile, and it doesn't make them suddenly Web incompetent. I can still find my way around! Ha!

Right now I'm on school break. So I'm surfing the old Disney sites. And I noticed some controversy, which always interests me. I'm just curious.

If you have an answer to this question, let me know. Thanks!

If you are truly interested, seek and ye shall find. Personally, I think things have died down and I'm not particularly interested in waking up that sleeping dog at this point in time.

Others may feel differently and (to echo poohlover) I'm sure they'll be along sooner or later. You're welcome to pull up a chair and do the research if you want, tiggergirl.

I'd rather be happy than right.

Frankly, I was just looking for a one-sentence answer, not the whole story. Like, "Someone accused someone of plagiarism." "Someone accused them of lying about something." Very simple.

It sounds, though, like nobody knows.

I am just not interested enough, nor do I have the time, to read the archives. Thanks anyway!

I am going to sign off and go do something I should have been doing, like finish painting my living room!

tiggergirl, if you're still lurking-

There is no one sentence answer. It's a long sordid story, and coming in at this point after things have been quiet (although not settled) for awhile, it's hard to give you a quick answer.

A lot of people here have come in late and been intrigued by the whole thing, and they've found what they wanted to know simply by doing a google search at RADP for "KUH" or "Breakfast Club", or by going through the archives here. Yes, it takes a long time, maybe someday someone will write a book about the whole thing. For now it takes a bit of work to learn the story.

Sorry you didn't feel like you were welcomed. The fact is your question and style are a bit similar to some who've come here just to raise a fuss. People are naturally suspicious of newcomers who arrive out of nowhere.

If you're not interested in reading up on the whole RCH thing, please hang around if you like, the other rooms here (and actually most topics here in the Outback now) are lots of fun and don't require a history lesson to join in.

Hi tiggergirl, and welcome!
This saga is long and sordid. It defies a simple explaination. But if someone still has the link stored, there was once a site called 'Ri-Ri Exposed' that contained some of Ms YKW's platitudes that were later deleted on her site. They'll give you a general idea of where her head was at, and might still be.

Did you see me at EPCOT on New Years Eve? I was wearing a yellow poncho...

Ditto!

You really can't give a one sentence summary.
Unless you want to say something like, "It's waaayyy bizarre".

It's a huge controversy, and as controversy goes, it has a lot of twists and turns, mixed in with emotions, and opinions. We, at CG, are a group of people that came together out of the ashes of that fire and have truly found Common Ground. That does NOT mean we all agree, or that we think alike. (which is a good thing)

We do welcome you and hope you feel comfortable posting here.

Someone asked about this late yesterday or earlier today at radp also. They were pointed to do a google search. Came back saying Whoa did not mean to start anything. A more regular contributor then asked for the Common Ground link. This might be the same person who questioned radp. I really don't think anything was meant by it. Or, that radp regular just wanted to come to see if anything was new. Big coincidence, though.

People might be starting to plan their spring and summer WDW vacations. If they try to access the old RCH they might end up finding their way here like tiggergirl did.

The irony in that is somewhat amusing...

I just wanted to add my welcome to the mix, tiggergirl.

We seem to be moving on from the controversy with readersclubhouse, and I think most of us are glad of that.

Please, take a look around. Common Ground is a pretty cool site, and I hope you will join in.

Boy, Howdy! One innocent question!

In a nutshell (lol!) RCH Management seems to have been mistaken about some folks' gullibility (i.e. empty threats).

Stick around Tiggergirl, it'll get better!

Trust me.

Hee hee....I don't think that clocks for sale. It hangs in the commissary at the Disney Studios in Burbank. I guess I need to post an explanation at Goofy's Huge huh?

Oh darn, Robin! I was afraid that might be the answer. Can you tell I've never been in the Commissary? Wonder how big of a shirt one would need to smuggle it out, and wonder if anyone would notice.

I love it!

Hello tiggergirl. Enjoy the archives.
But there's too much current fun going on here to bother with that old news.

Hello! I hope the challenges that kept you busy for so long worked out well for you. While a whole lot of water has gone under this bridge in the time you've been out of contact, I remember your name.

Please don't take the initial reactions to your post as simple rudeness by the folks here at Common Ground. Many of us would really just prefer the whole thing never happened or at least would just go away. Things have recently settled down a bit and it's a welcome change, so when your question came in, even as a simple coincidence, even I paused to consider it more.

I wish I could really explain it all to you, but honestly, some of us don't know exactly what caused all the commotion. At least not really. But ultimately it's an ugly ugly story and the biggest and best reason I personally have for not going into a lot of details for you is that if you still have wishes to spend time at Magic Alley aka the Clubhouse, it is probably best if you don't get too involved here, at least not in the actual controvery aspect. Those who have/do tend to find they are not so welcome there and often also discover sudden strange and coincidental challenges in their world.

If you do opt to hang out there, you'll see several familiar faces, with some big changes in how things are run. At least until you opt in to the 'restricted area' I assume it's more normal there, though I'm no longer welcome and refuse to fill out the 'damage statements' needed to attempt to gain entry. At least as I understand it, that is the 'price' of entry at this point.

You'll also quite possibly notice that many familiar faces are no longer there. Many by choice, many more not by choice. That is the saddest part in my opinion. Some truely wonderful folks are no longer welcome at a site that they helped create and build the spirit of, some for several years.

I'm sure there is fun to be had there in spite of what has transpired. In fact, I suspect that it's possible many there have no idea of any conflict at all as those in control there work very hard to keep things like this from the general membership.

My advice, should you choose to 'play' there? Use it as just that. A playground. Complete with monitors. Don't expect more evolution of the site. From what I can tell, that experiment was scrapped as a failure and a more controlled experiment is the current plan. In my opinion, this will probably be more comfortable for those involved in the actual workings of the site as it will offer less resistance to whatever direction they opt to take the site.

Where ever you opt to hang your hat, I wish you well, hope the endeavors and corrosponding hard work you undertook over the past months have given you what you hoped, and that you do feel welcome to either give us a chance or at least to visit from time to time.

Only the best to you,

Lori
