Paul F Man, after so many years of watching John Cooper take teams that should have steamrolled their way to a title and have them choke one way or another, this just feels soooo good!!!

Ohio State 31
Miami 24

I sure hope Columbus doesn't burn tonight. :-/

melissathepooh Okay here's my question - why on earth were all the people here (in Michigan) rooting for OSU. The only thing we could figure out was that they were pulling for the conference - which makes NO sense to me as MSU people and UofM as well should hate OSU - they recruit against them - they shouldn't wish each other well just because they are in the Big Ten. I guess being from the SEC we take rivalries a bit differently - if the can recruit against you they don't deserve anything!

Its not like there actually is a true National Champion - its all polls and rankings - when you have a school like Miami in the Big East - although they play a handful of tough schools - its not like they are taking it to the hill every weekend. Kind of like FSU is the ACC - what a cop out! I gave up at half time and went to bed, but from what DR said there were some pretty injury intentional plays by OSU - which I hope is not the case, but both teams got some lucky calls - which is always the case! It would really be interesting if college football had an actualy playoff series. It will never happen given sponsors, and attendance concerns, but it would be intresting.

At any rate - congrats to OSU for a well played year and to Miami as well - but here's to fabulous upcoming year for those Auburn Tigers!!!

Hmm....well, the strength of the conference does make a HUGE difference when recruiting. Witness the demise of the SWC starting with SMU receiving the death penalty. It had a lot to do with the fact that recruiting of blue chip players in the SWC became impossible. Competition and respect on the national level starts with how strong your inter conference rivals are.

Kids frequently will tell you "I'd like to go to a Big Ten School" or such. They will single out the conference. You will also see lots of articles that discuss not just which team had a great recruiting year, but which conference had a great recruiting year. You'll also see heated rivalries between the conference faithful...ie, PAC 10 supporters Vs SEC supporters.

Again, it does make a BIG difference. If your team can't go all the way, it is still a huge plus for your division to win it all. More Press and TV time the following year, and much better recruiting possibilities.

TrpltJanie Waay to go Ohio! My DH cheered for them because he lived in Clombus for several months before he transferred to Wash. D.C. He was screaming at the tv so had to turn off my processor.
