Lunarlady This just came across my weather monitors and I'm a little concerned when he will be returning to Michigan:

...THE WINTER STORM WATCH FOR LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON THROUGH THURSDAY NIGHT REMAINS IN EFFECT...

SNOW IS EXPECTED TO DEVELOP OVER SOUTHWESTERN LOWER MICHIGAN LATE THURSDAY AFTERNOON AND CONTINUE THURSDAY NIGHT. ACCUMULATIONS OF 6 INCHES OR GREATER ARE POSSIBLE DURING THIS PERIOD. IN ADDITION... BRISK NORTHEAST WINDS COULD PRODUCE SIGNIFICANT BLOWING AND DRIFTING SNOW. ALTHOUGH THE LATEST INDICATIONS SHOW THE HIGHEST ACCUMULATIONS ARE EXPECTED TO BE ACROSS THE FAR SOUTHERN COUNTIES OF MICHIGAN...A WOBBLE IN THE STORM TRACK COULD BRING HEAVIER SNOW FARTHER NORTH. PEOPLE LIVING IN...OR PLANNING TO TRAVEL THROUGH THE WATCH AREA...SHOULD CONTINUE TO MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS.

A WINTER STORM WATCH MEANS CONDITIONS ARE FAVORABLE FOR HAZARDOUS WINTER WEATHER IN AND CLOSE TO THE WATCH AREA. TRAVEL COULD BECOME DIFFICULT...AS THERE IS A POTENTIAL FOR SIGNIFICANT SNOW.

If Ahnalira or anyone down there is planning on meeting him and his family in the next day or so, could they pass along the word that things might be getting a little sticky up here upon his return? Thanks! :D

Karma They should probably just tell him to stay down there until the storm blows over. :D

I always pray that we can't get home once were there, although that DID backfire on me once. We couldn't get home alright, due to blizzards back home, and we were stuck in Orlando...at the AIRPORT!

sarge Thanks for the info LL I hadn't watched any news yet today.
Of course this is going to happen on most of our first day back to work. I'm thankful it wasn't on new years eve when alot of people are out.
I live in the same county as Ajax. I also wish him a safe return home.

Lunarlady I've got to get off the PC and stop listening to this. I know he lives on the east side but without a way of getting ahold of him, all I can do is sit here and worry.

It doesn't help that (being a weather nut) I have my computer set to "remind" me when a new advisory comes out:

This is MUCH more exciting when there's thunderstorms and wicked weather in the spring/summer. I like hearing about snow events when I know where my family's gonna be and I can make plans for myself. (Note to self: grocery shopping tomorrow AM top priority) But I hate not knowing when someone I care about is coming back into the region and might get stuck in all this.

I guess I just have to keep saying to myself:

1). Maybe it'll wobble south instead of north.
2). Maybe he's not due back until Saturday or Sunday and they'll have the snow cleared by then.
3). Maybe he already knows about it and has a family member with a jeep that'll come and get him, his wife and daughter at DTW.

Fingers crossed for Ajax. :)

Lunarlady I know what you mean, Sarge. My sister and BIL are due to go back to work tomorrow and it'll be hitting just as they're coming home from work. Right now I'm off from work and I'm tempted to be a volunteer to drive anyone from work to home if possible. (I don't have a jeep, but I'm very confident in the snow with my stick-shift)

Just take care, Sarge. Right now indicators point to this being an event along and south of a line from Holland (Watch out Fantayzya and Dsorcerer!) to Lansing (EEP!!) to the thumb...all areas could see 6 inches or more. Because it's 24-30 hours off, they're not entirely sure of the track and it could wobble south (watch out, VB!!) or north dumping more than 6 inches on us.

Here's a link to my favorite NOAA weather outlet. They're VERY good at getting this stuff up quickly:

http://iwin.nws.noaa.gov/iwin/mi/mi.html

If anyone hears from Ajax, please let me know and put my mind at rest! :D Thanks! :)

Thanks for the warning!

I have a cupboard full of food and chocolate, plenty of food for the kitty, a big ass stack of DVD's from Christmas that I haven't even begun to tackle, and a good supply of Molson XXX.

Bring it on!

Francine I love that site, LL. I am a bit of a weather nut myself. I love a good storm of any kind. I love to watch the internet for the storm, and I love to watch as the storm actually rolls into our area.

My Dad used to be a weather forcaster in WWII. He was stationed in Alaska, and would fly glider planes into enemy territory to get weather patterns. He even got some commendations for what he did.

So, when I was growing up, he used to always tell us what to expect from the weather. He and I used to love to sit on the steps to the breezeway, and watch storms roll in. That is a nice memory for me today.

Francine I just checked the ship's log in DIScussion. It says Ajax is due home on the 3rd. So, I think he will be fine.

THANK GOODNESS! Thank you for putting my mind at rest, Francine. I'm still a little concerned because the third is Friday and that might be too soon before all the streets are cleared, but because of the bad press DTW has gotten at least the runways should be relatively clear.

I don't think I'm going to be fully relaxed until he's back at home posting trip pics and reports, though. Thanks for the info, Francine! I also remember growing up with my mom and dad out in the backyard watching storms come in, so it must be a common childhood memory for alot of us! :D

And as for YOU VB, I'll be stocking up tomorrow and watching movies of my own. As long as everyone stays safe and sane, stocks up and doesn't drive badly, I think we're all gonna be A-OK!

I gotta motor now, but I'm glad to have some closure on some of the things I was worrying about on this board. Talk to y'all later!

sarge Thank you LL. I work 2nd shift, so that means on my way to work at 2:30 pm and on my way home 12 or 1 am depending if we work 9hrs which we have been doing alot lately. with a 1 hour drive each way can make for a looong trip home in snow and bad weather.

sarge also on my way to the store to stock up on food and chocolate.

Hey...wait a minute. I thought chocolate WAS food!

Robin When I'm traveling I usually have the weather channel on for background noise on my hotel room.

For some reason it always seems like there is nothing on TV at night when I'm relaxing, and in the morning it's gives me an idea what to expect for the day.

Hopefully Ajax has given the weather channel a peek, and is keeping an eye on the storm. It's better to see if you can extend your trip an extra day, then getting stuck waiting it out at the airport.

Ajax Thanks for the concern, LL. We got into Metro about 2:45pm, and had to scrape several inches of snow off the car. That sucked!
Leaving Florida at 11:30 and arriving in Detroit a bit over two hours later is like landing on another planet, and a nasty one at that.

Lunarlady I am SO glad you're back safely, Ajax! I was wondering if Francine had the dates wrong or you posted the dates wrong, but I guess we have to account for unpacking, laundry and getting the mail straightened up.

WELCOME BACK!!!
