We're Off To See The Lizard. I just placed our Official Disney tags on our luggage, we're off to spend the night in Detroit, then jet-out at 7am tomorrow.
Take care you guys, see you when we get back.
Ps. Don't forget, anyone at The World on 12/30, we'll be meeting at the lounge next to 'Ohana' at the Poly at 3pm. Drop in & say hi! See you at Epcot on New Years Eve! I'll be the one staring into the sky with my mouth open! |

You're going
to have a GREAT trip, AJAX!!! I'd envy you, but I
don't have to anymore!
Now don't forget, put a name tag INSIDE of your luggage as well and remember not to put food in there. Don't lock it!! Did you pack sunscreen? Bathing trunks? Rain gear? (You can get plastic ponchos for about a buck at Target or Walmart, then dispose of it instead of hauling it around the park)
I'm so happy for you! Have a GREAT trip!
I'd rather be happy than right. |

Did you remember:
Dollars for tips?
Mousekeeping tips?
Park tickets?
PHOTO ID'S FOR THE PLANE?
Credit cards?
Turn down the heat!
Set the lamp timers!
Is the stove off?
Are the pets stored?
Make sure you have a pen or pencil handy and all times. You never know when they'll come in handy!
I'm sure I'll think of more.
I'd rather be happy than right. |

Ok, I'm curious. Why don't you put food in your luggage? And, why would you leave it unlocked? |

There are some new rules in affect recently that prohibit packing food in luggage. They also tell you not to lock your luggage. If you lock it, and they want to get in it, they will break the locks.

Personally, I'd rather take my chances and lose a few bucks having to buy new locks then leave my suitcase unlocked and have to replace whatever the handlers decide they want out of my luggage. And handlers WILL go through bags if they get the chance. I'm fond of my underwear and it would ruin the trip if I had to replace it. ;-) Paul

I'm with you, Paul. Unscrupulous handlers aside, what if the zipper decides to make it's way open, and then you pull your bag off the carousel and all your underwear becomes strewn across the airport? I'd rather have them break my lock.
Oh, and the only food I've ever put into my luggage is a ziploc of Starbucks - does that make me a bad person? Tink *~*~* |

Don't forget to pack the lube.
HEY...it just MIGHT be one of the more important items. Tough to find your favorite brand while travelling, might as well bring your own from home, right?
(can I mention lube here? seriously, no offense and I'll bet there are several readers here who've just updated their packing list to include it and OTHER necessary *personal care products*)
Feel free to tell me when to curb it. LOL Working

aren't many (if any) "off limit" topics for me, and

I have no problem using those cheap locks and having security snip them off. At least I'll know if someone has been tampering with my luggage.
I'm curious, does security leave any kind of note or marking if they've gone through your luggage?
Normally I lock my luggage before handing it over to store. Last year when I got my bags back, I checked to insure the locks were still there, then opened it 'slightly' to ensure it was the way I left it, and double checked all the outside pockets. I felt better about answering the security questions at the airport after doing that.
Being realistic, many people check their luggage at the hotel and leave it their until it's time to go to the airport, but everyone 'conveniently' forgets that. Personally I'd rather have airport security cut off a lock worth a couple dollars at most, if needed, for that extra bit of peace of mind.
Oh yeah....and Ajax. Have a great trip! I toss my cookies for Disney. |

First, I wonder what they'd say in a note. Do you think they might critique my bloomers or anything weird like that?
Secondly, we never thought our locks were any good as anti theft devices. We just used the locks to keep the zippers zipped! Gonna use twist ties this year I think. Big fluffy yellow chenille ones.
Third-ishly, Ajax, hope your trip is a blast! DW at NYears...maaannnnnnn what a great way to celebrate! *~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*

I read that using those cable ties is the best bet. They are acceptible for check in's and you won't have to replace the whole bag if they open it. "After all is said and done, usually more is said than done"

I read somewhere that if security has to open your luggage, they'll leave some kind of form message inside your luggage telling you the inspected it. I'd rather be happy than right. |

I think I'll keep using the locks due to the fact that I personally know people who have had items stolen from their checked bags when they did not use locks. What is the rationale behind no food? Can you bring food on carry ons? |

Sorry, Tink
It was a busy day for me and I rushed out of the house,
realizing that I'd forgotten the camera just as we
drove past downtown Orlando. Mary got one, though.

I just got home and will also add to the opinions that a great time was had by all at Tambu. Unfortunately, by the time we remembered to take the picture Ajax had already left. What a dope I was. I will probably send it to Ahnalira to post for me while I work on the trip report. Ajax also tells me I have a lot of catching up to do, I thought we were slow? He gave me a heads up on the topic so I will be reading shortly.
It was a very soggy NYE at MK but we stuck it out just so we could say we did. Started raining about 7pm and did not stop until after 1 am. Heavy, soaking rain. Honestly, best park day I had, it was too much fun. Cast members were great and there was that incident on the Haunted Mansion during the storm. You'll have to wait for the trip report to find out about it.
Anyway, as far as new luggage rules they went into effect today. Find the whole thing at www.tsa.dot.gov (Sorry, too lazy to look up how to make that a link). As far as luggage being searched, they not only put a note in your luggage but wrap some sort of 'official' tape around your suitcase so you know right away to check for damage or missing items. We did actually fly today and saw one suitcase on the conveyer belt at Chicago Midway like this. I talked to a TSA agent outside MCO (trying to get as much nice weather as possible out of the day) and asked her how it was going. She said travelers were prepared and no one had any problems with extra measures. My biggest gripe about security is that I still don't think they are doing what they are supposed to be doing. Only while boarding the plane in Orlando did anyone actually match our ID's to our tickets! With all the alleged ID checks (we went through 4 in Chicago), the least they can do is actually check them. Mary

So, Mary, did you lock you bags or did you leave the locks off? I don't have a problem with security going through my bags, but I am less trusting of the behind-the-scenes baggage handlers.

I have never bothered with luggage locks. Saw a Dateline or 20/20 type show once that showed that unless you buy your own locks (combination preferably) all luggage keys open most all luggage. From the best luggage you can buy down to the K-Mart/Target/Walmart stuff. Anything important or expensive is always carried on. Mary
