Topic: Poll: Cool Whip, or real whipped cream? Return to archive

Tink *~*~* Since Thanksgiving and pies are upon us, I thought I'd take a poll. In our family, we love the plastic stuff better than the real thing. One dasn't show up with a pie without also having a vat o' Cool Whip original to go with it. Especially if it is a chocolate pudding pie with the graham cracker crust!

So what is it in your house - Cool Whip, or real whipped cream?

Enquiring minds want to know!

Robey Real Whipped! Oh yeah, babes!

By the way speaking of whipped cream- anyone have a recipe for Dole Whips? Craving one right now! (Thanks Tink) :)

Robin Reddi Whip!

I have found memories of my Aunt covering our desserts with it. Yum!

inkydinkydoo Everything else is real, but my favorite topping is faux.

While I'm here, happy Thanksgiving, everyone. I'm thankful for each of you, especially for Crank for having us all over. This place is starting to feel like home.

Canned, no whole berries. It's better served sliced so the can marks are less obvious. :)

TrpltJanie On the day after Thanksgiving, we eat turkey and cranberries sandwiches. If I make them with orange and cranberry bread--courtesy of Great Harvest Bread store--- my kids LOVE them and it is a good way of getting rid of the turkey and cranberry leftovers. I just pull all of the meat off of the bone, put it in a plastic container, dump the cranberries in it, and seal it up so the flavor of cranberries can soak through the turkey overnight.

Whipping cream--REAL!
Canned JELLIED cranberries

Ahnalira Homemade:

1 bag cranberries
1 orange w/peel, sliced
1 bag chopped pecans or walnuts (optional)
3/4 cup to 1 cup fructose (to taste)

Put it in a food processor and whiz. It only gets better with time :)

Cool whip at my house.

We do the canned jellied cranberry in my family, but I do prefer the real thing myself.

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone, be safe.

Tink *~*~* Well, since we're talking recipes, I have a question: when making cranberry bread with real cranberries, how does one keep them from all sinking to the bottom of the loaf while baking? I tried rolling them in flour, but that didn't work.

Peggo Cool Whip is passable for everyday desserts, but I do love the real whipped cream.
But then on the other hand, I can't eat anything by Ocean Spray cranberry sauce. Love those can marks!

Sirius -Real whipped cream

-Have to serve both canned jellied cranberries and canned whole berries to please the crowd (the most coveted slice of cranberries is the one with the ring mark from the end of the can by the way).

I asked a friend at work, and she said she thought you beat it too much. It shouldn't be creamy. (Needless to say I burst out laughing after she said that...bad me!)

Back to the topic at hand. She said the batter should be a bit lumpy, make sure it's thoroughly mixed, but not 'smooth'. She uses dried cranberries, not fresh ones.

Hope that helps.

mickeybar The whipped cream should be real, and the whole canned cranberry sauce used to be my favorite until I tried this recipe:

2 cups water
2 cups granulated sugar
zest of one orange
4 cups fresh cranberries
Flesh of one orange without pith (the white stuff under the peel), chopped

Put water, sugar and orange zest into a heavy saucepan and boil for 5 minutes. (I like to also add a few cloves at this point, then fish them out after the 5 minutes is over, and before I get to the next step.)
Add cranberries and orange flesh, and return to boiling.
Boil for 15-20 minutes, cranberries will have popped and mixture will be syrupy and crimson.
Skim the foamy "scum" and pour into a heat-proof bowl.
Chill overnight or 6-8 hrs before serving.
Makes about 3 cups.

Mmmmmmmm!

Dab I don't know if I've ever had real whipped cream. Grew up with the can stuff until Cool Whip was invented : )
So it's now fat free Cool Whip (gotta save a few calories on Thanksgiving LOL course eating one whole pie I guess I really shouldn't worry about the cool whip calories!)

Canned cranberries but I'm the only one that eats it. Can marks and all! I love to take a bite with a slice of turkey, stuffing and cranberry sauce.

Janie......I was told I was wierd for my day after sandwiches. So glad to hear I'm not that odd even though I do mine differently.
Regular bread, turkey, mayonnaise, mustard and cranberry sauce for sandwiches. I might even try putting some stuffing on those babies this year....yummmm I think I like the day after better!

Ajax Both. I favor the real stuff, while the more health concious members of the family go for the stuff in the tub. But I sure like sneaking out in the middle of the night, opening the fridge, and taking a shot straight out of the can!

Really, I'm glad to have all y'all!

It's great to have real conversations with real folk about real topics (unseemly as they may be!).

Perhaps we can all be truly thankful today for the freedom of speech we enjoy, without which we would have no choice but to endure the ravings of lunatics.

Hey! That would be a good name for a rock band!

HAPPY, HAPPY EVERYONE!
