Anyone on here familiar with anatomy?
Anyone know what is in the lower back on the right side?
2-3 inches above the pants line on the ride side.

Could be kidney... possibly lg intestines or even a pinched nerve sending referred pain. Liver and gallbladder are on the right side, but more at the sternum level.

I'm no doctor, nor anatomy expert but my guess would be a kidney.

Damn, that was a pretty quick consensus from other non-medical people.

I think I have a kidney stored there. Mine ache sometimes when I drink too much coffee or to little water. Sometimes they both ache, sometimes seperately.
When that happens, I drink 10-12oz of Cranberry Juice (the real stuff) twice a day for three days. If it continues or gets worse, see a Doctor.

Thanks guys, I was trying all the medical sites and could not find one that showed what would hurt towards the back.
It's been hurting for a few days now and sometimes it shoots a pain right there when I put my right foot down to walk (if that makes sense).
I'll try the cranberry juice and if it's not better in a few days, a trip to the doc I shall go.
Thanks again.

You also have the sciatic nerves there on both sides of the spine. If you feel back or leg pain it could be the nerve.

Pulling a back muscle or stress can cause sciatia to flare up.

I wonder what inspired this new Disney T-shirt? "I'm right. You're wrong. Any Questions?"

I'll second this opinion. Nerve problems in this area tend to produce a sharp pain sometimes shooting down the buttocks and into the back of the leg. Sometimes a little R&R is all that is needed. If it is the kidney, the cranberry will help--my Grandma (a heavy alcohol drinker) swore by it, and would drink some every morning!!! BTW--she's 86 now, and still hits the sauce!!

Drink a lot of water too - cranberry juice can have tons of sugar in it and can actually backfire (it did on me).

We buy the 100% Cranberry juice for its lower sugar content. The stuff made from concentrate doesn't work as well.
Kidney pain is often accompanied by a nagging, burning pain on the right side of the groin area.
I don't know about the nerve problems, but A friend has a cantankerous sciatic nerve that drives him into bed when it acts up.

Thanks guys, I really am not sure what's going on. It hurts in that area but worse when I step on that foot putting the weight on that side sends a sharper pain in that area. It could be stress but it's pretty painful at times, last night I put a heating pad under it.
Thanks for all the help!

If it keeps up, you should see a doctor. It could be a nerve, but it sure sounds kidney related. Maybe a kidney stone?

Sorry you are having this pain.

Uh oh....it sounds like a kidney stone. I have that when I get a whopper of a kidney stone trying to pass through so don't do this "stiff upper lip" thingy and PLEASE see the doctor ASAP to make sure that it is nothing serious.

I had this exact same problem a while back and I did go to the doctor because of a previous history with kidney stones. It turned out to be garden-variety low back pain.

The cure was taking massive doses of ibuprofen for 10 days (800 mg three times daily). If your stomach can handle Advil, just take four extra-strength pills three times per day for 10 days, plus put moist heat on the spot for 30 minutes per session at least once per day. Lower back stretches can also help, if the pain isn't too bad. (Lay on your back, pull your knee to your chest, then turn it gently across your body.) Since that much Advil will be hell on your liver, refrain from drinking during that time.

A doctor almost certainly will try this first, so you can if you want. This isn't medical advice, just my experience, and it assumes you are otherwise in perfect health.

BTW, this cure worked for me and the pain has not returned.
Hoping RiRi gives me some conjugal visits when I go to prison . . .

As one that suffers from phylonephritis( severe kidney infections) and Kidney stones, the pain is usually higher u on the right side more mid back then lower back, if you are running a fever or sick to your stomach go to the Dr. or ER. if not try heat and aleve .

Someone IM'd me tonight and asked, it feels like it's right below the last bone of the rib cage (if there was one in the back LOL now ya see why I asked if anyone knew anatomy????) and the pant line.
I've been taking Excederin the past two days and laying on a heating pad. I was a little fearful it had to do with other parts that I had biopsies on this past year.
Thanks everyone for all your help!!!
