Posted 02-11-03 05:09 PM A new alert from our travel department along with a recommendation to confirm any flights you have scheduled.
2/11/03, 3:50pm EDT
The US Department of Defense has announced today it is mobilizing the Civil Reserve Air Fleet to transport military personnel to the Persian Gulf region. The fleet consists of passenger aircraft provided by commercial air carriers to include the following:
American Airlines
American Trans Air
Continental Airlines
Delta Airlines
Hawaiian Airlines
North American Airlines
Northwest Airlines
Omni Air International
United Airlines
US Airways
World Airways
The airlines have 24-48 hours to contribute aircraft, which include L-1011's, Boeing 767 and 777's, DC-10's and Airbus 330's. At present, the Pentagon is calling up about 50 passenger aircraft for the fleet.
The airlines are expected to trim scheduled air service to compensate. Flight cancellations will occur and commercial flight schedules will be impacted.
Anyone else feel like the roller coaster ride is about to start? I toss my cookies for Disney.
I wonder what inspired this new Disney T-shirt? "I'm right. You're wrong. Any Questions?"

Posted 02-11-03 05:14 PM If the air traffic I am seeing, and hearing, 24 hours a day, going in and out of Westover, is any sign, I would say the ride has already started.
Let's all show support for our service people. The flights I hear and see are carrying troops to the Mid East. they stop here, and the next stop is points unknown.
See my post in Supercalafragilisitic about sending mail to the troops. It is a small thing, but apparently means a lot to them.

Done Deal!
C'mon folks! Let's let them know how much we appreciate what they're doing!
ETA: and perhaps they merit a short plea in your nightly prayers.

Things are stepping up here too unfortunately. When the AWACS go, it's never a good sign and we seem to be the home of the AWACS

I get this feeling every time I hear one of the planes go over. It is a quiet feeling. I always say a few prayers for those on board.
Westover is literally the last stop for lots of American service people, before going on to Asia or the Mid East.
