Posted 02-09-03 09:13 PM I've told Kerry and Crank personally, but I just wanted to say a really huge job well done on this site. I haven't been around quite as much here lately, but I will do so more. It is just amazing to me how we started out with a lot of apprehension on both sides over what we were all doing - and there are now over 20,000 posts and 250 or so members. I don't see it slowing down either, I guess the word is out that this is a great place to come!!! I am really pleased that we have been able to blend so well.
Here is to Common Ground!! Denise

Okay, for some
reason the post keeps propogating. Hopefully someone
can delete two of them while I log out of common ground
temporarily.

Posted 02-10-03 07:10 AM Well, Thank You Denise!
It's all Crank, Francine, and Robb now. Even in the beginning, you have to give LOTS of credit to Francine and Lori.
It was easy to start, but the people here, both the posters and the mods, are why it is still a fun site to read.

Posted 02-10-03 09:12 AM Adding my thanks into the mix. I remember a phone conversation with Kerry. I was very unsure, and wondered if the interent was ready for this.
Well, it appears it was!
Common Ground, a work in progress, a place where folks of different backgrounds, and different beliefs, can come and find common ground.
Thanks!

Posted 02-10-03 09:39 AM Yeah, what Denise said (hi Denise, nice to see you pop in!)
This has become my favorite place on the entire internet
.
annie "Are the fires of Hell a-glowing? Is the grisly reaper mowing? Who can provide the world with the answer to these pressing questions?"
"The candy man can," Rumsfeld added grimly.

Boy, do I remember that phone call! Ha!
Well, the site has come a long way since then and I'll add selfishly that I think I'm a better person and have grown simply because of the people I met here.
Some of the people here took a huge leap of faith. For some folks, this stuff was not just silly internet bulletin board issues. Some of the decisions they made had real world effects. It really spoke to what kind of people they truly are and I have been awed and inspired by their courage.

Posted 02-10-03 05:01 PM BTW Ditto what Coastal said about Francine and Fantaysia. They're the ones with the knowledge to help us doofuses! I like persons better than principles, and I like persons with no principles better than anything else in the world.

Posted 02-11-03 07:53 AM Francine and Fantayzya took great risks posting here so very long ago, and helped "common Ground" take shape. I Love them both. (well, one more than the other) "After all is said and done, usually more is said than done"
"You can put a computer to sleep, but you can't kill it"
"Computers are better than Ex-wives because after you give it a hard boot, it has forgotten the last bad thing you did to it"
"Pull this finger, and I make a sound"
"some people see the glass as half empty, some as half full, I see a glass that is just too darn big for the beverage"

No one could have predicted the outcome on this.
It is tremendously successful in that it has allowed everyone to 'voice' anything they want without fear of incrimination. Even those that oppose.
I, for one, really appreciate it.
I always wondered why somebody didn't do something about that. Then I realized I was somebody. --Lily Tomlin
