I initially rebooted too! Thought it was this dang machine,

I got kicked
out too Janie. I connect through work. There was
a major worm problem.
Obviously it wasn't just us. It was a major chunk of internet
providers according to my IT department. All I know was
I was typing responses that went nowhere. Glad it wasn't
just me 'cuz I thought you all thought I was rude!
For those of you who need to check these things, it was
an SQL worm and it infected many work SQL servers.

I had typed out something that would have absolutely CHANGED
THE WORLD when I got kicked off.
I just can't remember now what the hell it was! 
And Janie, get the hell out of my STUFF! I hear Ajax has
purchased some serious cast iron cookery. Couple that with
that spiffy new Knights helmet he bought on EBAY, and I'm
thinking your in for some serious retribution!
You know, if you were to post a new installment of your
trip report, I might try to persuade Ajax to hold off on
that whole "ambush" thing.

"Since about midnight EST almost every host on the internet has been receiving
a 376 byte UDP payload on port ms-sql-m (1434) from a random infected server.
Reports of some hosts receiving 10 per minute or more. internetpulse.net is reporting
UUNet and Internap are being hit very hard. This is the cause of major connectivity
problems being experienced worldwide. It is believed this worm leverages a vulnerability
published in June 2002. Several core routers have taken to blocking port 1434
outright. If you run Microsoft SQL Server, make sure the public internet can't
access it. If you manage a gateway, consider dropping UDP packets sent to port
1434." bani adds "This has effectively disabled 5 of the 13 root nameservers."
